Good review and an incredible album, reminds me of Extol in the use of phrasing and melody but with much more variation and cohesion. It's hard to see them improving on near perfection.

All Neurosis stuff is progressive gold. They seem to be at home with everything from their fast hardcore punkish era to the slow moody later stuff. This one is probably the most accessible but is still pure brilliance.

Its almost perfect. No more drawn out passages and boring sections like in Remission, its all killer. Great review, as you said, Mastodon are so far ahead of the likes of KE its not funny.

The only problem with Still Life is that fucking tracking problem over a few tracks. It really annoys me when I listen to it with headphones.

It might aswell be top of the pops apart from Opeth and DEP. I can't believe they're actually gonna bother playing.

I think Will Scharf of Keelhaul is more pleasing to the ears and has more groove, although in all his interviews he says he doesn't know what he's playing and he ruins the records.

Well, Keelhaul look like the biggest bunch of freaks you'll ever see but they make unbelievable music. Pelican look emo but are far from it. I still think that most bands that use corpse paint are trying to get attention.

I've heard the dogs are somewhat inconsistant live. Still sounds better than a drugged up anselmo to be fair.
