    EPIC QUESTIONNAIRE THREAD

Recent Behemoth has ruined early Behemoth for me, not to mention how mainstream they've become. In Poland Nergal is Simon Cowell.

    Themed Mixtape Game

Mekong Delta - Heroes Grief: The great thing about these guys isn't so much the riffs themselves, as the way the vocals interact with the guitar work. Really fucking solid. 9/10 Skelator - Elric the Dragon Prince: I actually literally drifted off during the lullaby-like intro, then lolled...

Apprenticeships still exist, it's just that the kind of hands on, artisanal professions that require apprenticeships are fewer and further between now. Most modern jobs are really vague in the skills they require.

My point is that if a job specific education was never seen as a necessary precursor to employment in the past, why would it now? I agree that there are too many people with useless degrees, and too few graduate jobs to accommodate them, but that's less a question of what people are studying...

Why get a degree at all when you can just watch a few Gene Simmons talks on youtube?

The higher education system has existed much longer than that particular point of view.

    Controversial opinions on metal

I want to hear this band. We've had this debate before, lol. My thinking is that a limited vocal range does't necessarily make for limited music; if anything, it stops the music from becoming too reliant on vocal melodies (which are always less sophisticated than instrumental ones anyway). At...

Either write the Great English Novel or stack shelves for the rest of my life. But seriously, no idea. I figure whatever career path I end up on will be the kind of job I have to find to know it actually exists.

True. I think there's something a little deficient with obsessive personalities - almost like that absorption in one abstract field fills a void missing somewhere else. Still, you don't necessarily need to be the best at something to derive satisfaction from it - even the leaders of the field...

I don't know, couldn't you use maths in those careers too? Teaching does sound stressful though, I doubt I could cope with it.

Sounds like a conceited douche. Although I have to admit, going to the pub with a bunch of guys whose conversational technique is basically an oral form of Einherjar's posting sounds like my idea of a nightmare.

You're not the first person I've heard profess a genuine enjoyment of mathematics. I still think you're being disingenuous though :P.

You're also not going to be accepted to a top law firm with a computer sciences degree, so I don't take your point. I also think it's incredibly limiting for the sole purpose of higher education to be preparation for employment. The benefits of humanities educations are less tangible on an...

Not really accurate. I agree that there are little in the way of practical career applications for Philosophy, but it's a difficult subject to be accepted for, and a difficult subject to do well in. Employers know this, and they're also aware that Philosophy students learn skills (as mentioned...
