    SX's activity

I think it's real clever of SX not to be overly active like, say, Dream Theater. Releasing albums every second year really isn't a wise thing to do if you are no longer in your heyday. That's not to say SX belong to that group, but I think it's really good that they take their time and take it...

    Joe Satriani

I was just wondering, what do you think of him? I think Vai is a better composer, but Joe def has some nice stuff and is a masterful guitarist.

    The Opeth forum closed!

Finally justice has prevailed. That bunch of ignorant morons are now without a gathering place. I've been there and believe me, 90% of them are not people you'd like to be associated with. In fact, I think I was indirectly responsible for it closing. After being absent for months I posted a...

    Alice in Chains

I was wondering what everybody is thinking of them. They released a new album in June, the first one in 14 years. I was delighted when I found out because I'm a big fan of them. I've only heard one song so far, "A Looking in Vieew" and it didn't disappoint. I think they got something akin to...

    A new instrument?

This is a question for Mike really. Have you considered using or adding a new instrument on the next album? Like a violin or a flute for instance? Rush added electric violin to a few songs in the 80's and I bet nobody would expect it to sound as good as it did. It just sounded so right, but only...

    Hours of Wealth

I have a feeling this song is ignored. To me it was the third best song on GR, after Harlequin Forest and Ghost of Perdition. I just LOVE that intro, how can you not?? But for some reason it didn't click with the fans it seems. Have they ever performed it live?

    Toki Wartooth

Did anybody see this?? There is a cartoon about some heavy metal band and one of the characters are based on Mikael! His name is Toki Wartooth...or Loki, not sure.:erk: Funny thing is, he's from Norway. There is another character that is Swedish. And apparently, Mikael is aware of this and is...

    Black Sabbath and Maiden?

I was just wondering what Mikael and co, and the rest of you guys here think of these two great heavy bands.

    Wishbone Ash

Has anybody here listened to or heard of them? Mikael is obviously a fan of them and so am I, although I just started listening to them a month ago. ARGUS, their third album, is a near masterpiece.

    I can play Drapery Falls!:D

Yesterday I was sitting alone at home, just messing on my Martin acoustic and suddenly as I was working on an A-mol progression it came to me! This was Drapery Falls! Slowly I started to figure it out. Now I almost can play the entire song, apart from the middle part that starts at just before...

    Best instrumental

Ok, here is another poll. This time it's about instrumentals. Opeth have had a few in their history and most of them, if not all, are worth mentioning. So, ladies and gentlemen and all you others-it's time to choose the best instrumental by Opeth.

Bass solo in The Lotus Eater?

I was just listening to the song and I noticed something I hadn't before, oddly. It sounds like there is a bass interplaying with the electric piano or whatever the keyboard instrument it is that plays that weird funk-jazz solo. Am I wrong??

    Worst song poll part 4

Ok folks...we are close to the end of this tunnel.:p Lets choose the worst, pardon me, weakest song from DELIVERANCE. I think that shouldnt be so hard. My vote goes to Master's Apprentices. That song is fuckin' empty! Except for a brief mellow part it has NUTHIN'.:Puke:

    Worst song poll part 3

That's right! It's WSP3!:heh: This time we are doing BWP. So the result should be more one sided. I think so at least...my pick? You guessed right-The Funeral Portrait. The intro is kinda cool, I love that chord and play it often on the acoustic but the rest of the song kinda makes me wanna...

    Worst song poll part 2

Ok, due to a request from one of you, the Still Life poll is now on! Choose your least favourite song from this magnificent album. Mine is Moonlapse Vertigo. Too much screaming and the intro is too long. Earlier it was Godhead's Lament, but that acoustic part breaks my heart.:waah::)

    Worst song poll part 1

I thought we might kill some more time. Which is the worst song on Morningrise? My choice is Nectar. Just can't find anything really good about this song. It's boring. Some parts in the latter half are ok, but it's a very poorly written song all in all.

    Opeth music for films

I think "Death whispered a lullaby" would be suitable for "Antichrist", the new movie by Lars Von Trier. I have read the synopsis and it sounds very fitting. Also, Mellotron Heart would be great for a remake of "Rosemary's Baby". I actually had a dream related to that film and just as I woke up...

    Annoying thing about Opeth

The only thing that annoys me about Opeth's music is the repetitions. The number of times a certain melody is repeated can sometimes be almost unbearable, like in the intro to To Bid You Farewell or Moonlapse Vertigo or The Moor. Even Porcelain Heart could use some shortening in the intro. I...

    Is Opeth too sad?

Sometimes I feel that Opeth's music is too sad. It definitely has a sad vibe, if you look at their opus altogether. But the question is, does it make YOU sad? I can't say it makes me sad, but it certainly doesnt make me happy either, lol.

    Epilogue live?

Have Opeth ever played Epilogue live? 'Cuz that would be a perfect way to end their shows, dontcha think?
