    The Official Doom Thread

Pimping a local band... candidate for my AOTY. More like Jethro Tull/Jefferson Airplane/Coven than doom, but whatever.

    new mastodon?

Mastodon and High on Fire cds have been rockin' in my car for the past 3 years straight. I find Mastodon's material to be real growers so I'm going to reserve judgement until much after the release, I just hope their "lets just have fun" run at it doesn't suck.

The (Un)official write anything you want page

The track I've heard from the newest Pentagram sounds like recent Pentagram meets recent Motorhead.

I love these types of retro bands and even I agree that Ghost is plain bad.

    Christian metal you like

I would not say so. The only song that might be "Christian" is "Prayer for the (M)asses", however it sticks out from their discography like Black Sabbath's "After Forever". I can see why you might say that though, some of the lyrics on the first two albums feel like they're written from the...

    DECEASED

I don't see any online but I got a SA shirt from a local rock store a few years ago.

Roky Erickson - The Evil One

Roky Erickson is a fantastic song-writer and has a great voice. Even if you don't know his name, chances are you've heard his song "You're Gunna Miss Me" released during his time with 13th Floor Elevators, a psychedelic rock band. Roky was plagued by schizophrenia and unfortunate experiences...

The (Un)official write anything you want page

I can't find the doom thread so I'm posting this here: A friend introduced me to The Wounded Kings a while back and they have a new album now --> sounds a lot similar to the Italian Horror Doom I've heard with bits of Electric Wizard and Manilla Road thrown in. You can see those influences...

Part way through Black Pyramid's s/t right now, it has a real energy to it, like The Ethereal Mirror, except with a vocal delivery close to that from Holy Mountain. It's pretty good.

    Traditional Doom Metal

I've heard everything released by Penance. Unless you have a massive attention span, The Road Less Travelled and The Road Revisited are weary and lackluster albums.

    Traditional Doom Metal

The song "Transcending" from Penance's album Proving Ground is one of my all-time favourite doom metal tracks. But the band has a lot of boring material imo.

The Chelsea Sessions 1967 has some of my fav ISB songs and seems pretty overlooked, so check it out too.

The s/t is a lot different but I like it. Everything after that not so much.

    Demilich, I invite you in

I'm just a lurker. I don't check the forums often. It was originally released in 72' and then rereleased in 05 or 06 I think, when his vinyl was dug up and praised in the same fashion as Vashti Bunyan's "Just Another Diamond Day". He apparently has released stuff since, like Vashti also, but I...

I checked one of the tunes on myspace, it was pretty good, I'll pick that cd up soon. I havn't found much else I really like out of the big indie scene atm, except some Iron & Wine..
