    New Katatonia album project

Awesome. DEK is one of the best releases of the last few years in my opinion.

Anyone know where to get cable to make a snake?

I'm not sure about where you're from but where I am, there are plenty of local suppliers where you can get a range of multipair cable. Have a look in the Yellow pages or something. Depending on pricing difference, it could be a good idea to spend a little extra and get a few spare lines in case...

This is making me rage. DIY electric kit.

I'd be interested in some close-up photos of the triggers and mounting systems - don't quite understand what you were describing with mounting..

    Beck's playable bottle

This is very cool. A New Zealand project where they create a playable beer bottle - Edison record style. Have a look at the article here. Video found here.

    London-based FOH engineer available

I've recently relocated to London and am looking to fill up my touring roster for summer. I've toured mixing FOH for plenty of well-known metal bands including Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, Dying Fetus, Krisiun, Winds of Plague and many others. Full credentials can be found here. I have my own...

    Protools help??

I could be completely wrong but I was under the impression that the Eleven rack could be used as an external amp-sim insert. Perhaps not if you're not using it as your primary interface though. If that doesn't work, you could always just run your guitar through Eleven and into a channel of the...

This is making me rage. DIY electric kit.

Looks cool man. I went through a phase of using mesh kick heads for all the recordings I was doing. It was great as I could get away with any kick editing I wanted. I don't imagine it'll feel too bad considering you already have it stuffed to hell with blankets in the existing kick. What are...

Ultimate Ears artist and headphone amp advice

Very stoked to say that a while back, I was approached by Ultimate Ears with a contract to start working together with me representing them as a livesound FOH and monitor engineer. About a month or so ago, I received a pair of custom UE18-Pro in ear monitors (amongst some other cool toys)...

Need mastering engineer for progressive death metal album

My band, Anabyss, has just finished a new album. I recorded this album over a long time - drums were recorded in 2011 - and guitars re-recorded multiple times. We finally recorded final takes of guitar, bass and vocals just recently and I mixed the album in my studio in Auckland. The mix...

    Difficulty achieving 'big' vocal sound

Thanks bro - don't know how I managed to fuck that up. Appreciate it!

    Difficulty achieving 'big' vocal sound

I'm currently working on a mix where I'm struggling to achieve a big vocal sound. I'm going for a thick, textured mix and I can't help but feel that the vocal mix is letting me down - isn't filling as much space as I'd like it to. I've tried different reverbs and other effects without much...

    'official live sound thread'

Thanks man. I just used my regular Sennheiser 906/903 combo. Yeah, triggers on kick. All other drums are natural. The kick sample was interesting - not a lot of body or balls to it, but sounded good in the faster stuff.

    Beat Detective complications..

This is an 8 core Mac Pro - wouldn't have thought it would have this much difficulty. Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to edit the whole song in one pass haha, just the crossfades. Previously I was doing these as I was going but by the time you get half way through the song, there is so much...

    Beat Detective complications..

I'm currently working on a session in Pro Tools HD 9. I've gone through and edited a whole lot of drums and now am attempting to use Beat Detective's 'edit smoothing' feature. All other Beat Detective processes are working perfectly, however, whenever I get to the Crossfade section, Pro Tools...

Bass Processing Tutorial - Systematic Style

This is great bro. I bought the eBook for my Kindle a while ago but never finished it before cracking my Kindle screen. The primary complication I'm currently having with bass tone is picking dynamics. I'm mixing an album where the bassist plays with fingers and is EXTREMELY dynamic. It's...

    'official live sound thread'

Yeah bro. Especially for monitors. Awesome in conjunction with mics if you're running digital and have input delay capabilities (Or a Radial Phazer)

    'official live sound thread'

Nice bro, when you get a chance, try experimenting with your EQ and processing of each kick mic independently. You can pretty easily use and treat the different response characteristics of the PZM and the dynamic differently to create some cool sounds.

    'official live sound thread'

Haha good choice of photo. I mixed Absu a while back and drummer had his headset mic. Sounded pretty nasty, especially when compared to BVs on 945s
