Glad I decided to google 'Link between aliens and cancer patients', it led me to this excellent and incredibly interesting article proposing that carcinogenesis could be seen, not only metaphorically but scientifically, as a form of speciation.

...Like a political revolution. It's speciation: a new arising within the old. However, it also kills off the host.
