I use one fat convo reverb for my entire mix. Pretty much every instrument gets sent to it in some amount (guitars are like -18db going in but they're still there). I've experimented around with having different reverb buses for different instruments but I keep coming back to the master reverb...

I did a power metal record recently where we recorded the rhythm guitars with a dynamic up on the grill (Sennheiser e835 for one track, Beta 57 for the other) and an AT2020 LDC about 3 or 4 feet back from the cab, phase-aligned and blended with the dynamics. Worked pretty well. The e835 is good...

Also make sure your mic is directly between two lugs, having it close to the nut will result in a boing (which could be a 'boom' at lower frequencies..)

You're not running a line level into that amp are you?
