We retracked with a thicker gauge of strings on the bass. Sounds great now.

Tuning bass with Melodyne. Can't get the bass to sound in tune with guitars

Who here is adept at tuning bass using melodyne? I'm finding that I just can't get the bass to sound in tune with the guitars on a few notes. It's driving me bonkers. I flatten the note out, it doesn't sound right. Move it up and down, still doesn't sound right. Try to make the attack sharper...

    best saturation plugins for vocals?

I've heard the distortion plug in that comes with cubase is awesome for vocals. I imagine Nuendo would have the same one. I've just tried the CLA1176 with comp off with the input cranked as crillemannen suggested, and it sounds wicked.

Wow. I Hadn't even notice the "comp off" setting. :kickass:

Decapitator is okay, but I wouldn't say it's the best. What DAW are you using? There is likely a distortion plug in in your DAW thats just as usable.

My Turd Polishing Technique (AKA how to get shitty musicians to play with a click)

Yeah, loops would work just the same, but you will have to program breakdowns by hand, because it's not likely they will have the exact beat you need. Blast beats, double bass and simple 4/4 beats, which are generally the only loops I would use, are the easiest to program. it only takes as long...

My Turd Polishing Technique (AKA how to get shitty musicians to play with a click)

I just program the bare minimum of cymbals. I've found programming the drums first works best if you are on a tight schedule, because they are 100% in time, so they are a better guide for the guitars. Guitarists will usually play sloppy unless they have drums as a guide. If I were to record...

Mathematic approach for Compressor settings (?)

Use your ears. You should be able to hear when the release is too long/short.

Mathematic approach for Compressor settings (?)

As a genral rule of thumb I make my release as quick as possible on kick drums. I move the release dial back until I hear distortion from the release letting go too quick, and then I back off until the distortion disappears, and PRESTO you have your optimal release setting. Make sure you do this...

My Turd Polishing Technique (AKA how to get shitty musicians to play with a click)

I hope you guys find this method works for you. Sloan: it's really not that hard. I don't program the fills. I'm working with either hardcore, death/thrash metal, which is just double bass, blast beats, or breakdowns, all of which are very easy to program, or simple 4/4 rock stuff, which is...

    best saturation plugins for vocals?

I use decapitator, logic's clip distortion (this one rules hard) or amp simulation (I do this in parallel as opposed to just strapping it on the track) in conjunction with slate vcc and waves 1176, or the 1176 emulation on the liquid mix getting about 20 db of reduction with fast attack, late...

Also, if you can pull this off, and no one else in your town does it, scene kids will line up and pay you $300 per song to do this ALL DAY.
