From what Ive found, a great tone can be found by first realizing what it is you want to hear in the final mix. A guitar can sound great solo'd but the frequency's can interfere with the other instruments in the mix. Pick your favorite EQ and spend allot of time messing with it. Dont be afraid...

Ive been using 2 KRK rokit5s and a KRK 10s for about 2 years, I have to say they are simply no frills no BS reliable monitors. I like them and wont look to upgrade until they decide to puke.

To be honest I dont think any one can be better or worse than anyone else. Its subjective... To me, my mixes sound awesome, but hey Im not in this game to impress myself.. now thats another story.
