As much as people don't realize, I honestly do believe alongside with the music, that sub-consciously the name OPETH and the beautiful logo it holds is truly epic and probably has a big impact on the bands individuality.

I did that with ghost reveries and it just killed the hype for me. now what i'm looking foward to is the documentary rather than the music itself

I wouldn't say it's mellow, there are heavy sections where he sings. The music is still heavy.
