    Bleed on tom tracks

I also duplicate tracks, one for the attack (highs) and the other for the body. Two things that improved my results A LOT using the aforementioned method: FIRST: Try the Audix D2/D4 for toms. I LOVE them... nice clear tone and little bleed (I HATE 421's because of the bleed) SECOND...

    Waves C4

I use it on toms, not as a compressor, but as an expander to bring up the attack in the high frequencies. It's like eq-ing but with a lot less bleed

    Radial X-amp frustration

You gotta boost the channel input gain, not the channel volume fader, then your low end and gain will appear ;-). The knob is in the mixer, right above the each channel fader, and you have to press shift to move it. (I assume you are using Cubase) That's it!

Tama Starclassic and Ported OCDP snare samples

Thanks for the samples man... I'm very interested in this thread because my drummer is about to choose between the tama starclassic bubinga/birch kit and a Maple Pearl Masters Custom kit.... we are due to enter the studio in April and I have no knowledge of the B/B kit ... Can you recommend...

Can you use a guitar preamp for bass ?

Blacky from Voivod gets his signature sound w/a Marshall 9001 guitar tube preamp into the input (yep, not the loop's return) of an ampeg or old acoustic bass amp. Sounds awesome. My bassplayer uses a Peavey Rockmaster ---> input of an ampeg svt2 pro. Nut-shaking and crunchy. For some reason...

    YT: Seymour Duncan pickup test!

I have the distortion and alternative 8; and to my ears there's clearly something wrong with the 8. It sounds like mine does when I use it on coil split mode. Are you sure your wiring was right Ola? . I know you're such an experienced guy, but that alt8 recording left me scratching my head. Of...

    Operation Mindcrime....

A masterpiece... But production-wise I think Empire is miles ahead... That album is perfection to my ears

    bass tone flow chart

Not to hijack the thread, but what are some good pickups for heavy distorted bass on a usa fender jazz? ... Our new bassplayer has one, but the pickups lack sustain + punch and hum like crazy. I've heard good things about the dimarzio model J's ... Anyone to share his experience?

Bass pedal for live and studio use.

On the cheaper side, you can get a Marshall Jackhammer ... while it might not be stellar on guitar, on bass it's really nice. Cool midrange crunch. The Peavey Rockmaster preamp is also great for bass IMHO
