Dimmu Borgir vs Cradle Of Filth

Intriguing... Im finding it quite hard to decide... Im going with: Cradle are better songwriters, but Dimmu are less annoying to listen to.

What's the best guitar pick for DM?

I really like the flat, heavy, unbranded picks. I know a lot of metal guitarists who use the dunlop stubbies, but I cant be doing with them myself, theyre too easy to drop.

Would you consider them metal ?

I dont think either of them are very good, but theyre both definitely metal.

Nile (less low growls as they progress?)

The new one is definitely worth a go. I don't think any individual song on it is as as good as the best songs on AOTW or Darkened Shrines, but as an album I think its more consistent.

10 essential death metal albums I MUST own!

You should check out some Bolt Thrower for some easy to listen to DM. I didnt notice anyone mentioning them. Have a listen to At first Light from the album Those Once Loyal. Akercocke are worth a go too, start with the album Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone, although theyre all good.

Black Metal bands that play great live.

Immortal are awesome live. I was also very impressed by live Akercocke & live Wolves in The Throne Room too.

    Controversial opinions on metal

I mean, dont get me wrong. I like Mumakil a lot. But if I put on a Mumakil album, it all blends together into one thing. I couldnt talk to you about it in terms of song titles & riffs. Same for most grind.

    Controversial opinions on metal

Point taken. I should perhaps have said 'Grindcore songs on any given grindcore album often sound the same to me'

    My Essay on Death Metal

Your attitude towards the music does you credit, but honestly you need a more diverse background in popular music knowledge before making statements about Deathcore bands being the only musicians to use exotic scales & odd time since the romantic period. I thought it was particularly naive of...

    Controversial opinions on metal

If it was a choice between having Nick Barker drumming on it or Vortex doing clean vocals on it, Id pick Vortex every time.

    Controversial opinions on metal

I like this thread... Tom Englund over emotes in his singing & it makes a lot of his vocals sound comical. George Kollias isnt as good as his reputation would have you believe Necrophagist's riffs are all quite samey. Despite being in a band with large grindcore influences, grindcore...

Nile (less low growls as they progress?)

I dont mind Dallas playing bass on the records, or even that his lines dont do much, but I just wish they had more bass in the mix. I find their guitar tone is quite over-saturated & is less heavy without the bass to anchor it a bit. When I saw them last the guy sessioning on bass kept...

first thing that came to my mind too.
