what size strings were you using when you were tuned to E? Given the scale length and tuning, you should be able to approximate the string tension and match it.

This is where the fanned fret idea comes into play... so you can have the benefits of the extended range for the strings that need it and have the normal scale where you don't. If I were ever to try buy an 8-string again, thats what I'd be looking for myself. Also, heres that page you were...

meh, I guess if you're only looking for djent bands that use 8 strings, then thats all you'll see. check out: Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Pig Destroyer, Ihsahn, Tony MacAlpine, Scale the Summit, Scar Symmetry, Beyond Creation, Fear Factory, Divine Heresy, Deftones, Molotov Solution... etc etc...
