    Ideological Relevance of Black Metal

I do not associate bands that are not Scandinavian or have pagan or anti-Christian messages as Black Metal. IMO, Black Metal is a cultural music driven by frustration and hatred of the Christian world for the destruction of an ancient and respectable culture. The themes found in common...

    Getting that Entombed/Dismember Tone

    That's not a bass.

    Getting that Entombed/Dismember Tone

Overdone topic, but I'm actually curious about what bass equipment was used for the recording on the older Entombed and Dismember albums instead of the guitars. I can't find any information on this anywhere.

    Periphery?

You didn't quite understand me. I didn't say they couldn't play these songs, but that it seems that they didn't intentionally write in X/X signature, that it's just natural for them. There's a difference in writing technical music to express musicianship, and writing it naturally, while...

    Periphery?

I won't deny that the drummer is talented, but it's easy to write in those patterns for guitar, if you're doing those simple chugging rhythms. Also, I'm not entirely convinced that the band understands the time signatures they write in. It seems they are just naturally playing odd patterns...

Looking at new amps for death metal

You should be pleased with the 6505. First order of business will be to crank the presence knob. So many people say they can't get a good, thick sound from a 6505, and this normally puts it into a whole other world.

    Periphery?

It's Meshuggah worship that's been bastardized with boring drumming and whiny vocals. I really have no interest in this surge of "djent" music, and I don't understand the "math" label attached to it, because these bands aren't doing anything complex. Meshuggah themselves get more credit than...

Looking at new amps for death metal

The owned of Axe Palace (an Engl dealer) in Boston posts on another site (sevenstring.org) and seems to rate the Fireball 100 as the best tube amp going for death metal, even above the Savage and Powerball. I'm undecided since I've never played a Fireball, but in clips it seems like a great...

Looking at new amps for death metal

I'm currently playing a 6505+ and Ampeg VH140C (Suffocation used these) in stereo, and it's thick and beefy. I'm going to save some cash to put towards a Bogner Uberschall and Mesa Dual Rectifier though.

How to get the At The Gates - Cold solo tone?

I've never been a fan of the Metal Zone really, but maybe I should give it another shot. I've got a 6505+ and can't get that tone, and I'm still not sure what that effect is around 2:02 in the solo. Thanks so far.

How to get the At The Gates - Cold solo tone?

Does anybody know what gear ATG recorded with on Slaughter of the Soul, specifically for solos? And what's that semi-fluttery effect at about 2:02? Yeah, age old newb question... don't throw too many stones.

Playing a VH140C with 6505, will it sound good?

There was a Peavey VTM around here that a buddy bought, and since then I've been doing some reading on them. Seems like a great budget amp, and if I ever see another one, it's mine. This Ampeg should be easy to resale if I'm not satisfied, so I'm not too worried about sinking money into it...

Playing a VH140C with 6505, will it sound good?

I'm about to buy an Ampeg VH140C for just under 400, and it's going to be the first solid state head I've ever owned. I play through two amps, so I'm wondering how it's going to mesh with a 6505+, all tube amp. I play grind (Insect Warfare, Repulsion), oldschool DM (Entombed, Pungent Stench...
