Guitars - I just don't get it (stems link)

I guess I need to find something other than Pod Farm then :) I did try AmpliTube 3 FREE, but that didn't sound great either. oroinvictus - I totally agree, but as soon as I add any low end in it starts to muddy up considerably. Any pointers on how I can remedy that? I've only high/low passed...

Guitars - I just don't get it (stems link)

Are they only available on PC? I am on a Mac unfortunately - can only see the LeCto AU when I search for these. On a side note, would it also be worth upgrading my interface? Was thinking of an Apogee Duet 2 or an M-Audio ProFire 2626. Would any of these help with the tone? Just trying to get...

Guitars - I just don't get it (stems link)

Thanks for the replies - no access to record real amps, as much as I would love to. The tone I used is a variation of the POD farm preset above. It just sounds like crap. The Lecto one I tried too and it just seemed to not bite enough - muddy sounding. I wasn't sure if that was due to my...

Guitars - I just don't get it (stems link)

I just can't seem to get the guitars to sound or sit right in the mix. They always sound too fizzy or like they have just been recorded off a gritty amp. I use Pod Farm 2, always high pass to around 100hz, low pass off 12khz-ish and knock out a large cut around 4khz to get rid of the Pod Farm...

    Frequency Clashes / Peaks

Thanks for the replies. I think part of this is, that I am completely unsure what is causing it. I am focusing on the snare because I assume it's the crack adding to the peak volume. It happens on random loop playbacks which I can't figure out. Sometimes it will peak at -5.5db, then on another...

    Frequency Clashes / Peaks

That's the problem I have though. Should I really be looking at it via SPAN say and then change the EQ for the snare just for one rogue spike? I'm not even 100% it is the snare so how do I tell and if so how would I go about removing that peak?

    Frequency Clashes / Peaks

I have searched on here for this but I just don't get it or understand it enough. I am mixing a song and trying to keep the peak level around -6db. I am using SSD for my drums and during playback it jumps up to -3.4db in some play backs and not others. Is this due to the SSD anti-machine...

    First time mixing

Hi, This is my first time mixing and I have been picking up loads of hints from reading on here and trying to experiment as much as I can. Just wondered if anyone could give me some hints/advice with this track: I know it's distorting a bit, the drums are also going to be...

    Dead mix, dead drums

Unfortunately I'm having to use a Fender Mustang for the guitar, which explains the thin sound. I have four tracked layers of guitar, main riff is dual tracked, with each two panned either side around 20-30%. My drums have the hi-hats, snare panned right around 35% with everything else...

    Dead mix, dead drums

I think I will get them eventually, but am just wondering what I am doing so wrong in the mix I posted? Really want to understand why it sounds the way it does and how I can improve it, especially the drums. Thanks

    Dead mix, dead drums

This is my first mix and I really am just looking for some pointers. I know it sounds really thin, the guitars are a bit tinny and the drums sound dead. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3995418/slow-04-m.mp3 I tracked the guitars x 4, bass copied and then eq'd differently. I have eq'd and eq'd...

    Decent ride cymbal advice

Thanks for all the replies. I know the rest of my mix is weak but this ride stands out quite a lot. If I swap it for a crash then it's just too overbearing and has that loud 'wah wah wah' scooping sound on every hit. Mick, I am using Logic stock cymbals so not sure if I can post them up. I...

    Decent ride cymbal advice

Ahh sorry should have explained a bit more. I am using Logic to record demos so all the cymbals are samples. They just have that 'ting ting' effect rather than having any meat behind them. I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea to make the chorus stand out and really groove with the cymbals...

    Decent ride cymbal advice

I am trying to mix a new song for my band and it should kick in really heavy with a constant hitting of the ride cymbal. It sounds ok, but just a bit 'ting, ting, ting' like. Any advice for making it really pop as well as lift that part of the song etc? Thanks
