POD XT or Boss GT-8 or...

What you can do is set a rough EQ track on your guitar tracks to filter out a lot of the ugly frequencies for while you track. It won't be perfect, but it's only meant to make the recording process bareable. :)

    Sansamp BassDI or MXR?

Using my BTB405 with a Sansamp, I couldn't really find a heavy tone that I liked. It all sounded too loose and fuzzy. For cleaner sounds I can get results that I'm happy with though.

    External Hard drive Question (GB)

Actually, I have to correct a mistake I made... my apps drive is now a Seagate. Had to replace a smaller drive back in the day, and went with a Seagate. So I'll give the thumbs up to Seagate too.

    External Hard drive Question (GB)

The company I work for uses Maxtor HDDs in a lot of our digital video recorder products. These are DVRs to go on trains 'n' shit for capturing surveillance footage from the cameras. We go through hundreds of these HDDs, for projects both local and international. We might get plenty of shit...

    A Little Help(EastWest) Hardcore bass

Toontrack are doing beta testing for a DFHS RTAS plugin at the moment I believe.

    Losing snare after mastering

I recently decided to give this Timeworks plugin a try, after having my snare somewhat killed by L2 in the past. I didn't go for a huge squashing... something I guess more like Andromeda's II=I, or maybe Necrophagist's Epitaph... I consider those to be good guides to go by. I found the snare...

Direct input tone ( sorry guys)

I did a small experiment once, where basically I recorded my V-Amp with the cabinet modelling switched off. It sounded like sonic-faeces, to say the least. Then I slapped a nice big EQ plugin on there and went to town on it. It took a crap load of EQ'ing, but I was able to get some decent...

    Programmed Drums Question

I don't use Drumagog. Don't even know what the fuck it is actually. I do use DFHS though, which automatically randomises the samples played. But it doesn't alter the velocities or timings at all. So that all has to be done in the drum sequencing. Personally, even if DFHS did have some feature...

    Programmed Drums Question

Every bit of "humanizing" I do to my drum tracks is all done manually, note by note. The thing I dick with most would probably be the dynamics of the snare. Aside from that, lil details like in a blast beat, I might shift notes slightly so that the snare hits and the hat hits aren't right on top...

Direct input tone ( sorry guys)

I use a POD XT for most of my recording. Hell, at the moment I'm even tweaking sounds to record my bass using both a Sansamp Bass DI and my POD. I've got a Mesa Quad based rack, with an ENGL 2x12 and a 1960A cab, a Groove Tubes Brick preamp, an SM57, and an E609, etc... ... but I find it...

    Extreme sh*t (part 2) (dfhs, gt-8, jpm)...

That's a pretty decent sound I think. I'm particularly impressed with your GT-8 sound. I've got one of those, but never had as much luck getting good direct recorded sounds. Through my power amp I love it, but for direct recording I have more luck using a POD. Care to share some settings perhaps?

    The 10-Minute Metal Epic [Bloodline]

No offense, but I think you really need to work on your timing. A lot of that, I'd have scrapped and re-played. I am a bit of a tightarse with timing... but some of that stuff I really wouldn't have let through. That, and it's sounding very compressed overall, but I guess that's your personal...

    C4 and Panning?

+1 So many people (not necessarily only here) seem to talk as if it's a necessary part of their sound or something. If you're dialing in your tones to fit in with the fact that you will be using that C4 on there, then you've got the wrong idea. :goggly: If all your guitar recordings...

    2x12 cabs vs 4x12 cabs

I've got an ENGL 2x12 (Vertical, with V60s), as well as a Marshall 1960A. The ENGL has maybe a lil less low end, but it's tighter, and has a meaner mid-range. Less top end fizziness compared to the 1960A too. One day I'll get my fat arse to a music store to buy another speaker cable, and try...

    OT: I need sleep...

Well, to be fair, the heavy use of caffeine was a result of not being able to sleep and having to be awake during the day. It doesn't really matter what I do, I'm just always buggered. Even when I get some holiday time off, I can settle into a bit more of a sleep routine but I still...
