Guitar signal suddenly sounds weak, and degraded.

newamerikangospel, Phantom power mate, coming from the ADA 8000. I was recording another mob the night before all this happened, and the singer tripped over a cable which ended up with the DI box on the floor, but it wasn't anything harsh (it's a sturdy design). I suspected there was a small...

Guitar signal suddenly sounds weak, and degraded.

Yeah dude, replaced the jack and XLR cables, tried different ports on the Behringer and checked the software thoroughly. It does actually sound like how an active pickup whose battery is dying might, but it is indeed a passive pickup. The only thing I can do now is buy more ADAT and firewire...

Guitar signal suddenly sounds weak, and degraded.

Hi folks, I've run into some guitar signal issues and wondering if anyone here could help. I usually get some awesome tones out my amp sims, but today I fired up my computer and when I started playing I notice that the tones weren't quite there any more. They sounded flat, under gained and now...

    Hardwired...To Self Destruct production

It's definitely a bit easier on the ears. In saying that I think Hardwired is the worst mix on the whole album, the cymbals and snare sound a bit smashed and too sizzly in the original mix and it just sounds mushy overall. In fact if I were to cut the album down to 8 tracks then 'Hardwired'...

    Hardwired...To Self Destruct production

See I'm not so convinced that it's the drums which are too bright or too loud but rather the guitars are just way too bland to compliment them. It wouldn't hurt to maybe shave a bit of high end off the drums to be sure (the cymbals seem a little hot in places) and if they were combined with a...

    Hardwired...To Self Destruct production

I agree with most of what you are saying and 7/10 is what I'd give it too. The songs do tend to go on too long although It's nowhere near as bad as Death Magnetic. I'm half and half on Kirk's solos but they do just sound like same old shit most of the time but there's moments of greatness there...

    Hardwired...To Self Destruct production

That's a very fair review. I agree about Lars' drumming although I think it's solid enough but his pattern choices are really weak and tend to wreck the flow of the songs. I'd give it about a 7/10, most of that going to James Hetfield and I do enjoy it but it does have it's flaws. I do think...

    Hardwired...To Self Destruct production

I really like the snare sound on the album. To me it has a similarity to the Black Album snare with that crack and I like a drum heavy mix so it's all good. I do agree the kick is pretty bad. Awful in fact. I don't think Lars uses triggers so that may have something to do with it. I think the...

    Hardwired...To Self Destruct production

Musically I'm not commenting as each to his own but I thought I'd talk about the production. Honestly, I can't see 'that' much wrong with it. The only issue I have is with that dreadful guitar tone. It sounds undergained yet over-saturated in the upper mids and has a boxy quality with that...

A/Bing with reference track in WMP

Thanks for the reply. I figured it was something like that. Always wondered why my masters were never 'quite' loud enough when comparing. The good thing is they are now!

A/Bing with reference track in WMP

Hey folks, I usually A/B with a reference track by just playing from the mastering session in Cubase and then playing the reference track in Windows Media Player at full volume. I don't know why but I decided to actually import the reference file and play it through a separate 'clean' output...

    Palm Mutes

Guitars are just double tracked and pretty much the same settings but I'm using two different sim heads but the impulse is the same one. I'm wondering if it's partly an issue with my mastering technique as it sounds not too bad with absolutely everything stripped down to just the mix and when I...

    Palm Mutes

Thanks for the replies folks. I manage to get it sorted a 'bit' by dipping the drum bus and the bass at around 400hz but the other culprit seems to be the SSL compressor I usually have on the master bus at the start of my mastering chain. It was going a little mad when the mutes started...

    Palm Mutes

Hi folks, It's been a while since I've been on here or been recording for that matter but some friends have asked me to record their new album for them so need a bit of advice on an old problem. I'm doing a few tests right now and I've got a great guitar tone using the Lepou amp sims and...

Tracking noise from playing guitar facing monitors?

Great, thanks for the reply's guys. I'm in a less than ideal listening environment right now with my workstation jammed up against a wall near a corner with not much space for myself or the sound to move but getting new gear soon and doing a complete reshuffle of my room plus some treatment...
