    What Got You Into Opeth?

1999.. Prologue/April Ethereal, then a brief skip through the rest of MAYH in a St. Louis music store. Hooked. I got SL when it came out in Canada. My first Opeth show I got a press pass and backstage - was amazing! -too bad my gf and her bro left and I had to cab home ($50 more)..

    Opeth.com Members' Opinions/Reviews of GR

Opeth have maintained their signature sound, while creating an album with new textures and sounds. May not be extreme brutal death or black metal, but Mikael never promised anything like that, just that the subject matter would be darker. Good album, but will take some time to sink in, as...

Anyone see Opeth at Download fest??

I was in England for several days before and several days AFTER the festival. I only found out about it on my way OUT of england. That kinda pisses me off, but I likely wouldn't have paid the money to see just Opeth for 30 minutes and have to deal with other smeg for hours and hours...

    Sea of Tranquility Interview Mike

As long as it doesn't turn into Cradle of Filth.. I'd love to see them play with a load of real vintage synths - moogs, mellotron, hammond. great interview, definitely unique

    guitars

Double Fat-Strats are nice, stick an Invader in the bridge maybe. A Godin with acoustic piezo output would be nice for Opeth's on-the-fly switching. Look into the LGX series. I suppose you'll pay a lot more for it in the States than Canada, but they're better constucted than anything at their...

Why do Opeth Fans get a bad rap?

If one feels passionately about anything (in our case, music), a natural curiosity is bred. I am interested in the origins of things and influences (be they societal, personal, musical, etc) - If I can glean some better understanding of why Opeth affects me and so many others in such a profound...

    Opeth's bassiest song

Those sweet swells and slides on Orchid and Morningrise are played on a fretless bass. My bassist pulls out his fretless for To Bid You Farewell, and it sounds great! Mendez has some sweet basslines, and he's a phenomenal player. He could handle a lot more action onstage, but Opeth's...

    Evolution in Songwriting

the sound always moves toward the polished. SW's production has a really slick, polished feel to it (something about the compression..) Also, his influence on Opeth is certainly larger than it would be on a band that rehearsed together more frequently. Since Opeth basically joins all these...

Where did YOU first hear about Opeth?

I was on the very lovely Candlelight Records website, looking for Peccatum, it must have been 1999. I read about Opeth but had never had the opportunity to hear them. That summer, I was in St. Louis and found a copy of MAYH for $10.99usd. I had the guy open it and I skimmed through the...

    Your Guitars

I work at a music store in Toronto, so all day long I'm surrounded by gear-heads and kids alike.. anyway, IMHO, Gibsons aren't that bad, but when you pay $3000 for a guitar, it shouldn't have silly problems like bad nuts or (yes) cracked headstocks. my gear: Epiphone G400 sg copy (my 2nd...

    Favorite Opeth Vocals

Maybe it's just because I love the riff, but in Karma: "The cold season.. drifts over the land" But really MAYH has excellent vocal arrangement throughout. Any segue to clean singing is always very smoothly handled. "I turned away my eyes.." another one of my favourites. wheeeee

    Toronto 24/02 Roll-Call!

I had fully intended to go, and a co-worker had told me he would get me tickets..and always reassured me that he would get them, so I held back. Now it's sold out, I'm sure Opeth are taking the stage right about now, and I'm at home. I didn't take the bus on the off-chance that some scalpers...

    Opeth professional Tabs

I'd rather hear a personal interpretation of a piece instead of a poor clone. That said, and though I couldn't do better, some tabs are just so blatantly wrong.. I suppose Powertab couldn't come out with an osX version... time to go:Smokin:

What do Opeth fans do for a living?

I work at Long & McQuade (selling musical instruments to people who are way more talented than me) in Toronto.. I've only heard a few people play any Opeth when trying out a guitar, one guy did ending credits, but most people know drapery falls, if anything.

    Your Greatest Opeth Live Song...

Hoser - I agree! Benighted live is (was) incredible.. though I would kill to see Moonlapse Vertigo live (being the first decent quality live Opeth I'd heard - from Metalfest 2000)..
