Hey folks,
I've been trying to record miced guitars for the first time. I used:
Marshall '78 JMP 100W (preamp gain maxed, master half way, tone controls untouched)
Diezel V30 4x12 Cabinet
SM57
I put the mic 90 degree (mostly) on the edge of the speaker, distance between 0 to 3 inches...
Does anyone know which mics they used in the late 70s, early 80s? I always find that the guitars on albums like "Killers", "High Voltage" or "Kill 'em all" have a lot more aggressive, dirty midrange than guitars on recent records.
I posted this in a different board already but no reply so far. Maybe you guys can help me out...
I recently bought myself a "Focusrite Saffire 6" USB audio interface and I have some questions:
1. When I plug in one of my guitars and flipping the "Instruments/Hi-Z"-switch the signals are...
I really dig the idea of providing both DI and processed bass. This way the unexperienced participants (like me) who want to make their own bass sound can compare theirs to the already processed one and so we have an additional learning effect...
it could also come from the frets which are slightly touching the strings when you hit them. this can happen when string action is set too low or the truss rod is not adjusted correctly.

I felt that this song has the special 80's vibe to it even if the guitars are detuned and the kick is quite clicky. So I mixed it not just oldschool but retro style like late...
I haven't read every post on this thread but heres my humble opinion on the whole digital/ampsim topic:
I believe that the digital simulation of gear is the future! Even if the (poweramp and) cab simulations still suck today there will be a point in the future where it's a lot more additional...
haha, nice thread!
I agree with every post and it reminds me that at least 99 % of all lyrics ever written are pure bullshit... and thus I always hate to write lyrics myself because I don't think mine are any better :-D
Ah and I wondered that there's no complaining about partying/"screwing...
hm, my first advice would be to use a marshall sim like LePou's HyBrit maybe boosted by a tubescreamer or rat pedal simulation (mokafix). Even if you're not using a marshall sim you should try to make it sound like one (turn up those kickass mids!) This is a major step to get a true heavy metal...
