Fury Road is fucking insane and glorious. Furiosa is good too but in a different way. I'll admit to feeling let down after the bombast that was Fury Road; the sequel definitely doesn't go for the same level of high-octane madness. But it has a different point to make, I think.

Dude, I know. I'm psyched. Also, this scratches the itch I have for Panos Cosmatos's Nekrokosm. Still unclear if that's actually happening or not.

It's not only the ending of the season, there are things peppered throughout all eight episodes. The ending hammers the final nail in the coffin though. I mean, it is the ending after all. Endings are kind of a big deal. But even then, it doesn't kill the season for me. I still really like it...

It's no one thing, just a bunch of little things. On the surface, S1 feels like a pretty progressive and iconoclastic season; but a few things never sat right with me, and paired with Pizzolatto's cringey slandering of the fourth season (which, say what you want about it, he didn't come off...

I've wanted to rewatch S2 for a while now, and seeing this makes me want to do it even more. I'll always have a place in my heart for S1 and what it was doing, but I also have to admit that watching it now, it's kinda hard to ignore Nic Pizzolatto's weird crypto-conservatism. You're right that...

Nice. I forgot to add that there's a tech/VR/deep learning angle to Gathering Evidence that makes it feel super relevant today. I don't use Goodreads but I know lots of people prefer it for keeping track of their reading likes and habits. As far as keeping up with new books, I usually just...

I burned through Martin MacInnes's three novels this past summer. He's a Scottish writer; his most recent book, In Ascension, was longlisted for the Booker prize. It's heady science fiction--not in the hard sense, but more in the philosophical sense. I found it really addictive. It's about a...

Yeah it was a letdown. I think I dislike it more because my hopes were so high. My mistake.

I agree with everything you said except that Rogue One is a great movie and WAY better than Romulus. 😁 (I don't actually think you were implying otherwise, and I get the comparison between the two; but Rogue One was definitely better in a lot of ways). I also lean toward liking Romulus, but I...

I don't put much stock in national identity; since college, I've never understood the appeal. Whatever it means to be American in a classically patriotic sense, I feel more estranged from that than I do from living among Armenian Americans around Boston. I'd like my country to operate in ways...

If those feelings are rooted in misinformation and hearsay about migrants, then I'd say there's something very wrong with them. Murray traffics in misinformation and perpetuates falsified claims of violent crimes committed by migrants, and uses those claims and misinformation to justify...

Murray's ideas are bad. That's the problem.

I wouldn't bother. Douglas Murray is a piece of shit.
