    mastering compared to unmastered

That's impressive, Fifth Horseman:rock: The pre-master has a nice balanced tone and sounds very good. The master goes to another level and brings out the balls in the music. SM58 on cabs, I've done that too. From what I've heard the 58 is the same as the 57 but with a pop filter.

    Any good pre-amp < 200$?

I'm using a Joe Meek ThreeQ Preamp that I got off ebay for something like $150. It sounds great and has EQ and Compression. Just one channel though.

Sounds killer! The Cobra midrange is really unique.

    MAC Heads

LOL...Is everything working fine now? If so then don't update. I've only updated when it gives me something I really need or fixes something, otherwise, don't bother. I'm running 10.4.8 now anyways for PT.

    Impulses for Pro tools Mac

No seriously, my bad for going there. We really do need a decent convolution reverb that doesn't cost an arm and a leg!

    Drum replacement

Don't those wrappers cause problems and crash sometimes? I would rather use a native rtas plug than get involved with an emulator, though I've never tried a wrapper. Battery 3 works good for layering.

...and then spend countless hours troubleshooting and fixing viruses :heh: kidding I sent an email over to alien connections asking if they are working on an rtas version and they got right back to me saying that it is in the works but there's no eta. Maybe if enough people ask them for it...

    Impulses for Pro tools Mac

The only options I know about are Altiverb and Waves IR-L. Don't have either but I've tried the trial version of the Waves and it seems pretty good.

well... I just ordered a mac

It really comes down to what is comfortable and what makes you work more efficiently. I use PT but before I was using Logic Express. Logic has some cool features (freezing audio tracks is awesome) but doesn't touch PT as far as speed and editing, imo. Try and use some different daws by...

Should I dump the powerbook for powermac?

Eventually you'll have to move up to an Intel mac, but when is up to you. I'm not familiar with Cubase but most companies should be able to provide an update to run as Universal Binary. If they do charge you then it should only be a nominal fee and not a full re-purchase.

Should I dump the powerbook for powermac?

That will definitely bump up your speed and options but I would throw some more ram in out of the gates. OSX is a ram hog so 2 GB+ would be ideal.

    Help with upgrading my mac

Ram is critical for EZ Drummer because the samples are loaded into memory. So if putting more ram in the machine is not possible then what worked for me on my 1 Ghz G4 Powerbook was to write out the drum parts with only a simple guide track and then record them to disk so you can cut down on...

    ltd deluxe ec 1000

If you don't mind a little more floppiness to the strings than go with the ESP. If you need tight strings for fast riffing then check out the larger scale guitars. I switched to a Hellraiser for that very reason.
