Well, Cedric from the mars volta uses the 421 live, and he sounds all right, but I donno how well it would sound in the studio. I'd get 3 57's (or Audix I5) over a 421 anyday tho.

An amp is only what you make of it. You can have a mesa triple rec, but most people wont know how to set it and mic it to get a good tone out of it.

I think the drum sound good because hes a good drummer, part of the way the drums sound has a lot to do with the player.
