How many snare sample layers do you use in order to create the final snare?

I tend to use two. But one for top and one for bottom. For my own projects I use superior drummer, and I've only blended two or more snares a handful of times. For live drums, I've blended in samples much more often.

Mastering without killing the snare drum

Go back to the mixing stage and solo your snare track. Look at the transients before any compression. Your transient should look like this "|>". The highest peak, which most commonly lies within the first 20ms of the transient, is what would be slapping against your master compression. What...

    Chasing Sokaris Single Instrumental

Hey guys! I have a song by my band I'd like to show you! I used TSE Audio's X50 v2 for this mix, and downpitched guitar for bass. I used Superior Cymbals and Slate drums for kick, snare and Toms. Tell me what you think of the song and the mix...

    TSE X50 V2 vs TSE X50 V1 comparison

Wow, V2.0 is much much more better. Like previously stated by others, the overall crisp in V1 is a little harsher while V2.0 is smooth and definitely sounds more full. TSE Audio, AMAZING!

    Analog vs Digital age

What is the difference between analog and digital? Would 'real' amps be considered analog? Would a rack with a BBE Maximizer, preamp etc... be considered analog where to an emulator of those be digital via plugin?

Ho do you make them paid?

When I used to record Avenged Sevenfold........I didn't. But I think charging ahead of time, will suffice.

    Defining Guitar EQ Frequencies

If you milk cows, you will have buckets filled with milk. If you buy it from the store, you will never understand the fundamentals behind milking a cow. It's science.

    Recording your own band

I may actually strongly consider this idea! I could use some monitors =P

    Recording your own band

This is the quota I gave them and they seem pretty happy with it! "PRODUCING RATES $10/song + 50% of profits AFTER re-upping CD's goes toward Studio Equipment updates 20% goes to me, and 30% goes to band profit. QUOTA EXAMPLE! "Believe In" Demo! $10/song = $40 up front Total Cost: $40 for...

    Recording your own band

I guess I have been taken advantage of on various accounts to where I was recording for several bands and was never paid. I've learned I should charge straight up before the process even begins but whatever. Now with my new band, I had the thought of charging a bit of money off CD sales but...

    Recording your own band

Is it fair to charge your own band to record them when the end result is a good product? Caleb Shomo when he recorded Attack Attack, do you think he charged the band to record them? Is this reasonable?

Overwhelming in the start of mixing

Of course! Fundamentally it makes sense, with a multiband compressor and highpassing some of the low frequencies leaving room for 'mastering' to have a well controlled low end. In the high end, it's different for me. When I listen to a lot of recordings and albums, I hear a harsh competition...
