Witchfinder General are so good! If you can't figure 'em out by ear then I recommend trying harder. Their songs really aren't that complicated. How long have you been playing guitar for?

This is key. It's true that you want a good chord progression for the clean part, but if the bassist and drummer aren't doing anything interesting musically then it won't have much of an effect.

Definitely!! Other "thinking" bands/albums... Gorguts - Obscura Portal Deathspell Omega Sigh Voivod - Dimension Hatross Just some off the top of my head. I find those bands have very unique compositions that more often than not require you to pay more attention than usual.

I gave the new Beherit a listen today. It's pretty fucking good, considering how come-backs have been lately. It's pretty much like their earlier material, with an electronic tinge to it and way better production.

Deeds of Flesh are pretty wicked. Those guys are riff machines! Yeah slam death is a cool style, although it gets repetitive fast at times.
