I used to use a fast track pro before I upgraded my system. It's not a problem. Like the previous poster said, I'm not sure why a certain mic wouldn't work with a certain interface. What software are you using with it.

An Ibanez tube screamer works good to boost your overdrive channel. Alone it's probably not gonna give you the distorted tone you want, but in addition to your amps overdrive it works like a charm.

I've had good success using a shure sm57 to record guitar amps. Amp stands and cables if you don't have them already.

I would go with a Dark Terror, if you're going to be using it for metal, but that's just me.

Sounds cool, like others have said, if you double up the guitars it would give it some extra depth. I would try panning one 80% each way. Also finding a drummer to play the drum parts would help too.
