    Whats happened to Metal??

Yeah, terrible state of affairs isn't it :erk: Why can't ALL the bands, regardless of quality, wring money from us spoilt listeners!? IT'S AN OUTRAGE

    progressive death metal

Try Neglected Fields, more on the progressive end of the spectrum.

    Tech Death

Seconded for recommendations of Theory in Practice and Pavor (Furioso album).

Pissed off sounding metal for when you're in a pissy mood

Revenge is the most hateful sounding band I know of.

    Black metal with deeper vocals

Blood of Kingu (low shamanic burbling) or Hate Forest (dual vocal attack of hoarse growls vs more typical BM vox).

former Vader drummer Doc has died

Their current drummer played on their last album, at any rate. Novy from Behemoth replaced their old guy on bass a while back, too.

    best live bands

Behemoth Whatever you might think about their studio stuff, it translates well to a super-loud live setting, and they have a massive amount of power and charisma live. Until Havoc left they used to have possibly the fastest windmiller on the face of the planet, which was great to watch. The...

Recommend me some Black Metal I might like

The only thing that sounds black metal to me is the dirty production on a couple of albums. All the riffing is deathy, the blasting style could be seen as blackened because Read can't kick roll or bomb blast, but it's generally too hyperactive and varied for bm. Vocals are all over the place so...

Kommando lost a finger, no longer in Arghoslent

Also funny that a band like Arghoslent complains about 'geographical prejudice' against Americans.

Recommend me some Black Metal I might like

AoA aren't black metal at all. They are excellent, however.

    Drumwork

Revenge, Conqueror and in particular Axis of Advance. J. read (who drums/drummed for all of these) has one of the ugliest and coolest drumming styles I've heard. He essentially just blasts forever, never rolls the double kick - possibly because he can't - and repeats variations of the same...

Need some good death metal reccommendations...

A gravity blast is when you do a snare roll in 16ths with one hand, across a kick roll in 16ths. ie. you have your straight blast which is alternating bass and snare, your bomb blast which is snare hits in 8ths over a kick roll (1 snare for every 2 kick, leading on snare), and a gravity blast...

    Velvet Cacoon

Pretty fucking hilarious. He also makes some good points about the juvenility of Black Metal in general. However, he also exposes the juvenility of Velvet Cacoon itself. Making up some bullshit about inventing a fucking petrol powered aquarium is mildly funny when people buy into the hype...

Nile "lashed to the slave stick"

To me Kollias' drumming was disappointing on this album. Over-clicky kick, feathery toms, quiet snare on the straight blasts, and just no original ideas. Granted he had a lot to live up to, but I've heard the album a dozen times now and still none of his fills stick in my mind. Good album...

    Kiddie Fiddlers!!!!

I'm not saying I condone it, but one of Black Metal's aims is to undermine linear ideas about morality, isn't it? Remember the only reason that it's okay to take stabs at Christianity now is because it is weaker than it used to be. For bm bands to constantly harp on about Christianity as if...
