Yeah, they opened with Mob Rules. It was awesome. Russell is the best singer in the world in my opinion, and every time i see him live it's proven again and again.

An awesome experience! Russell was amazing, the new songs hit hard live, and the covers they played were great! Black Sabbath's Mob Rules and War Pigs, Dio's stand up and shout, duran duran's come undone (WTF), and even badlands 'high wire' which was amazing!! How they decided to do that song...

Right, except I've heard all the music that Russell has been involved with so far and really enjoyed it all, so my opinion is based on having actually heard the music. Whereas there is no music to hear so far for this new project. Not the same :).

I think the safest way to test this theory is to put together all of metal's best musicians and have them cover something truly dreadful, and see how it fares.

Well, I suppose people can complain all they want. I just paid a measly 12 bucks to see Rus and Portnoy tear it up onstage. It'll be a few new songs and a bunch of classic covers from what I gather. Russell Allen doing Dio or something for 12 bucks?! Count me in!

Don't be foolish. Everything is personal preference. Some people think that Cannibal Corpse is an absolutely amazing band. I don't. But I would never call anyone's record "bad". You're either 13 years old, pretentious to the point of it being painful, or both. I don't think I've heard your band...

Yeah, that never made any sense to me either. I enjoy music, I take inspiration from it, I play it, I write it...but to sit there and say "oh band X is/is not really like band Y because of A, B, and C" to me is probably one of the most colossal wastes of time I've ever heard of.

There's nothing to make of it. I've recently decided to stop reading any of these reviews. I don't give a damn what some reviewer thought of the album. I'll listen and decide what I think for myself. When you sit there reading reviews you just form opinions before you hear the record, and then...

I must say I'm not too thrilled about the Metallica-ness of that part in the song...but I will say that if Hetfield sounded anywhere close to how Russell sounds, it'd be enough to get me to consider Metallica a good band again.
