Which year did you start listening to Peth?

'99. Heard Morningrise, bought MAYH, and then Still Life was about the highest I'd ever anticipated an album. Still my favourite, too...

What Opeth song got you hooked?

The first Opeth song I hard, as well, as Advent, although I think it was summer '99. I went home and went to buy Morningrise but couldn't find it and got MAYH instead. I later got Morningrise and Orchid and was already a huge fan before Still Life came out. Opeth was so different than everything...

I gotta do this: BEST song on Ghost Reveries so far....

Ghost of Perdition and Reverie/Harlequin Forest are Opeth classics that strive to the level of the top tracks on even the great Still Life and MAYH. Meanwhile, Isolation years is up there with some of their classic mellow material (which always seems to be better than pretty much all of...

    Gene Hoglan w/ Opeth?

He can open a beer bottle with his eye. I've seen it - it's amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if could unhinge his jaw. If that man can make his body defy physics with drum kits and beer bottles, why not with Martin Lopez?

    opeth forum..?

Back in the day, many years ago, the Opeth forum was the most active on UM by far, and it was (somehow simultaneously) the only place to go for reasonably intelligent discussion, free of name-calling, trolling, elitism, and general stupidity. I sense that all disintegrated as the albums started...

    Tulsa SOTU

The fact that Gene Hoglan can do what he does to his drum kit is a violation of the basic laws of physics. He is a unique phenominon to witness, and a pretty nice guy to boot. Oh, and he can open a beer bottle with his eye. I watched it happen - he's a god amongst men. I got to see him play with...

    opeth record sales?

My understanding, and I am pretty much pulling this out of my ass, it that the first four albums sold total about 20,000 copies each. When BWP came along it was the big breakthrough, selling about 80,000 worldwide. I don't honestly know about D1/D2. What I do know is that Opeth are now amongst...

    Changes

Hi Dan, My only advice is to be honest with yourself emotionally, and for an artist like you I doubt this will be a problem. All the best to Åsa, John, and yourself.

How big is Devin in Canada?

Somebody from DTB (I think it was Ryan Van Pooderooyen, or however that's spelled) told my buddy Jamie at a recent show what I had long suspected - Devin's smallest following of anywhere in the world is in Canada. That being said, those of us who are Canadian Devy fans are all absolutely fucking...

    Vancouver set list

Hey, I remember seeing you get the setlist a bit after the show. Huh. I got them to sign the crisp new 5 dollar bill given to me. Why not? I stayed around for the signing and learned that Peter Forsberg is Mike's favourite hockey player and Gene Hoglan can open a twist-off beer bottle with his...

Hoglan rumours: I'll believe it when I see it

And, he did them wonderfully. Thanks, Gene!

I Think Gene Hoglan Should Be The New Drummer.....!

This is a silly thread, but I'll state for the record that Gene could certainly do it if for whatever reason inclined. Of course, Opeth already has a great drummer and Gene's already commited to another great band, so...

    Opeth Concert in VancouveR!

I kinda planned to show up AFTER Devil Driver but unfortunately failed and had to sit through them. Oh well. Moonspell, who for the record I was familiar with, but not really with their music at all, was quite good, with the possible exception of some cheese factor when the vocalist brought out...

So, what's the word on the Vancouver show tomorrow?

Given the circumstances I don't have huge hopes, just seeing them play will be nice, but it would be really awesome to see something other than from Damnation. I will be there no matter what, however, I look forward to seeing everybody at the show!
