In your case, the "right" way to use those samples would be to load all 5 of them in Aptrigga, set it to random and that's it. It will trigger one of those five samples randomly every time the snare comes in and it will sound more realistic because it's not repeating the exact same sample over...

I usually record the snare with no dampening at all, just make sure that it's tuned right and it sounds good (with the ring and everything). If the ring is getting too prominent during the fast parts I just automate an EQ or sometimes even a multiband compressor to bring the ring down during...

Maybe the compressor that you are using is adding a bit of saturation to your tracks and bringing out frequencies that were not so prominent before. I don't know what compressors you're using, but some of them are not transparent, they add some saturation.

I believe that the sound you're referring to is just a palm mute of a full chord, instead of just the root.

On drumagog just turn off the dynamic tracking option.

I've been using Decaptator for saturation, but I've heard a lot of good things about VCC and VTM, I'm curious about them, might give it a shot.

Yeah, there's a slate snare along with the natural one. I didn't notice a problem with the alignment though, I will check it, thanks for pointing that out.

The advice from Skinny Viking worked wonders. Did a cut around 3k on the shells an it made the whole thing much smoother. Thanks a lot for the help guys!

I'm clipping the tracks with just a bit of Gclip, I will back it off a bit to see if it helps. Yeah, I can see how some people might not like the ringy snare sound but I personally like it.

Thanks man, I'm surprised that you dig the sound. Are you talking about doing the cut on the whole drum bus, or on the individual tracks?

Just added a clip to the original post ;) ....it's short but it's where the harshness is worst in the song.
