I would love to make a mixing sample for you if you are interested. It may help you notice some things if you compare them.

    Help needed! Thrash/oldschool metal

I am mixing an EP for a young thrash metal band and I'm not an oldschool metal fan myself so any feedback and tips would be appreciated! After listening to many thrash metal bands I found 2 main approaches. They are either detailed and controlled , or very raw and overcompressed(this is the one...

    Tips for musicians/sound engineers

TBH I can't answer that question without writing a book! but in general some of the things that make my mixes bigger are 1)Clarity in performance and correct eq use. 2) boosted top and bottom end. 3)A widener in mastering(many disagree on that though) 4) good separation and instrument placement

How HOT you track your guitar DIs?

I use a saffire pro 40 to record DI guitars and they clip occasionally. But when I reamp their track at 0 level they have exactly the same gain like when the guitar is plugged in to the amp directly. Therefore I do it even if I'm using plugins and I don't have added noise or hear any clipping.

Anyone feel as their get better...

If you don't over do it when you are a noob you wont really know what compressors, eqs and fx do. It's part of the learning process. 1) learn what they do/learn to listen 2) learn how and how much to use them 3) manipulate emotions with them after 7 years of doing this, I'm still at 2

Is bright mix without additive EQ possible?

If you have balanced the top with minor adjustments on the individual tracks you can add brightness in mastering. It's better to have one eq adding than 15 of them. Also the brightness on guitars is much lower than the cymbals and vocals. try adding a lowpass on them at 9-10k and boost at around...

    Tips for musicians/sound engineers

I found yesterday the first of the two exports I did for the Feared mixing competition and I remembered the mistake I used to do when I transitioned from musician to sound engineer/musician. #1 tip and most important: If you want to ever finish composing a song, forget that you are a sound...

Slate FG-Grey vs Hardware 4k Bus Compressors

I voted for 1. and 2 was the worst for me. I am an analog fan but I secretly wanted the VBC to be at least close to the units. Now I need 4k...

    PEAVEY 6505 VS 6505+

+1 on that. And if you listen to the first riff you can hear that the 6505+ accents the higher strings and the 6505 the palm mutes.

    PEAVEY 6505 VS 6505+

I personally think that 6505+ is a little tighter and more detailed, and the 6505 is a little bit more open sounding and raw/ballsy. But yes the difference is very subtle.

    PEAVEY 6505 VS 6505+

I happened to have them both in my studio while reamping for a band and decided to compare them cause I've heard that most people prefer the 6505 over the 6505+. Take a listen and decide for your self.

Mix my bands album for fun!

B-vera needs a lot of production stuff and lots of automation, I wish I had more time to work on this. Here is a mix anyway but its not even 50% there. https://www.dropbox.com/s/luh4ku8dc6fmph6/B-Vera%20-%20Jim%20Siou%20promo%2003-01.mp3

Practice Time 03 - MISS MAY I -"Apologies are for the weak" Cover (DI tracks inside)

Really?? Did you use anything to change its tuning? it really sounds weird especially on the sustained notes.
