Bass Processing Tutorial - Systematic Style

Great read. I agree that screenshots included in the mixing guide would have harmed the reader more than helped. Too many people would have gotten rid of the principles and just dialed in the exact settings for every single mix.

    mix chek pls!

I agree with WalhallaM. The drums could definitely use more power. I hear too much of the actual "snares" in the snare drum. I would choose a different kick sample too. Something a tiny bit more low ended and a tiny bit less click. The guitars are too loud imo. Cool song though. -Jonathan

    what do you think?

The guitars are way too loud. I think they could use some low mids as well. The drums have no power to them at all. They are getting drowned out completely. -Jonathan

Newest songs of mine... Progressive Metal style

The track sounds way too compressed. The track is pumping big time. Also, the drop at :32 is really weak. A big reason is because the stutter sound you got leading up to it is much louder than the rest of the song. The drums are too up front - especially the cymbals and snare. The guitars...

how to get a big sounding mix?

+1. Drums are the foundation of every track. If you got crap drums, your mix will fall apart. Also, if you're tracking live drums like me, edit the hell out of them and get them completely on time with the click. It takes hours, but it's worth the work. Making sure everything is on time...

    Mixing help

Agree with the snare. Those guitars need to come up a good amount. Also, I think you could brighten them up a bit. Overall, it sounds pretty good.

Now-a-days amp sims are getting so advanced they are very comparable.

    Hows this mix?

Hi Pass the guitars more. Work on the bass tone as well. It's got no punch and just sounds like mud. I would start completely over. Start with mixing the drums. Get an even level and then mix the bass into that. Then the guitars. Then the keys and other lead stuff. Listen to other songs...

    Metalcore band i'm recording.

Good mix. I agree with the OH's. I also agree with xplanet2112 about the snare - but I think the snare could come up a bit in general, also add a bit of crack to it as well. I think the bass sounds good. I'm not a big fan of the type of reverb you have on the snare at :47 and :50. Sounds...

Rock Ballad - How's the mix so far?

Hey guys, So this song is not metal at all, but I could really use some extra ears to let me know if there are any problematic areas in the mix. I'm actually using this song I wrote for my girlfriend as a part of my plan to propose to her in about a week! You can follow this link to read...

    Mid Range Madness ...Guitars

Dude you have some serious talent. Yes, production is great - but your songwriting is insanely good. Is this just you or a band you're in? -Jonathan

How to make my mix sound better?

The track overall sounds very dull. Your guitars need some high end. I agree with Chris that the bass is floppy and the snare is really low ended. The snare sounds like something from a different song - it's not glued to the rest of the kit. I think work on the reverb and compression. Could...
