pops with firebox in windows 7 - need help

Sorry to hear that. Since you mentioned you get clicking when you move the media player window about have you tried turning all display enhancements off e.g Windows Aero? You can do this by going into display properties, advanced settings, performance settings and then select 'Adjust for...

pops with firebox in windows 7 - need help

Yeah, although if you are using the TI chipset then I would hope the legacy drivers would fix it. If neither the drivers or the hotfix work then I would be out of ideas I am afraid, normally the answer is to get a card with a Texas Instruments chipset, but you already have that sorted!

pops with firebox in windows 7 - need help

Try the legacy driver first, it should be the same one used in XP so if your firebox worked in XP it may well fix it. You need to make sure you're firebox is actually using the Texas INstruments chipset for firewire though, do you have more than one firewire port? One on a PCI card perhaps?

pops with firebox in windows 7 - need help

You need to right click on the firewire device you are using in that picture (it should be the Texas Instruments one) and select properties. Then select the driver tab and then update driver. Select 'browse my computer for driver software', then 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my...

pops with firebox in windows 7 - need help

Have a look at this and see if it's relevant: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B981613&x=10&y=14 Also I have seen before that sometimes switching to legacy firewire drivers can fix this issue. (You can choose which firewire driver Windows 7 uses in the device manager)...

    Request for a Synth Tutorial

The problem with providing a tutorial is that each synth will often automate in a different way. I would reccomend picking one synth (NI's Massive is a fairly popular and versatile choice) and then just read the manual back to front and find a decent resource on wavetable/additive/FM synthesis...

    Bass booms, sub bass

I use the simple synthesis feature in Soundforge. Find the frequency of the sub note you want, get Soundforge to output a sine wave at that frequency for the desired length, put a pitchbend on the resulting sample and if necessary, saturate a little to give it a touch more harmonic content...

Recording sessions with London based thrash metal band Brutai (pics and video)

Haha I did see you funnily enough, was walking a bit behind you when I first got there! Unfortunately I'm not there today or tomorrow as I've got to go back to my current uni, was just there for the student and careers events really on Sunday, missing out on all the good stuff :( Cheers for...

Recording sessions with London based thrash metal band Brutai (pics and video)

Ah cool, I went to the AES convention in Hammersmith today and spoke to a Thames Valley rep about the audio production MA actually! How would you rate the uni and department if you don't mind me asking?

    first post and first mixdown!

Yeah the chords never sound perfectly in tune even when the guitar is, I'm pretty sure it's because the intonation on my guitar is out of wack. Have tried to set it myself but turning the saddle screws seems to have no effect whatsoever. Probably needs to be set up properly but would rather put...

The "Wooshing" sound for a lack of better word

Might not be applicable to your kind of music but in electronic production a common way to achieve this is to use a hi-passed white noise generator. If you get it to sit in the mix right it can be an effective way to subtley raise tension before a drop.

    first post and first mixdown!

Sorry to double post but I had another go today at mixing, this time I decided to go completely back to basics and play something really simple just to try and get a better guitar tone down and this time make sure the guitar was actually properly in tune  Ended up being a bit of a...

Mixing as one giant session, Or individual song sessions

In the new Tape Op there's a long interview with Kurt Ballou (of Converge fame) and he mentions that he mixes in one session unless there are songs with significantly different styles. I imagine in metal and hardcore there isn't enough deviation in sound to warrant the effort in copying settings...

    first post and first mixdown!

Ok have been fiddling with the guitar tone and can already tell how much I was missing from the low end, cheers for the tips guys! Do you mean sidechain compression rather than parallel? I've used parallel compression on bass and kicks in the past (electronic music) but never for frequency...
