I would take this with a grain of salt. A string processor is a strong processor. My laptop is an i5 8 GB RAM and I record at 48k and do big ass sessions. Been doing it that way for years It's ALL about the specs... Not if it's the shape of a box or a notebook....lol

those amps were used in many many great sounding albums. its all in the technique and experience. dont blame gear - just keep trying new things and practice.

your plasticy tone youre refering too is just a certain mid frequency is somewhat dominant. i never got this problem with a 57 or sm7b on a good ole guitar cab and a tube head. make sure the cab has V30 speakers...youll never have this problem. but id start working on your mixing skills before...

how you have to look at it, andrew is this: each frequency ( you can divide this by the hundreds.. so 100hz, 200hz, 300hz and so on,) should be "dominated" by one instrument at a time. so in your case, you have a low end heavy bass guitar, guitars, and toms and kick. thats why you are clipping...

whats your amp setup and what are your amp settings? what kinda tubes? what kind of speakers in your cab?

honestly man, id say sell your interface and DI box and get a newer gen scarlett. the 2i2 is 200 CAD and man, they are really nice preamps and converters. in fact, they are the same exact preamps and converters as one of their highest end interfaces (correct me if im wrong.. but i looked at all...
