Bought a Mad Professor Porter lately. Happy with it. Extremely light (could lift it with two fingers), sounds great and even though it is a 1x12, still produces enough noise to fool our drummer into thinking I had my 4x12 hooked up.

It all starts with an awesome player using an awesome bass with awesome pickups and fresh strings. Since you don't have that available, as you mentioned, you might try heavy editing and automation to even out that low end. If that doesn't help, programming bass with a sampled high-end instrument...

Just start with what you have and keep changing settings/positions/whatnot until you get as close to a tone that works for you as possible. Don't overcomplicate things.

This. And I'd mix both basses differently, but making sure the sound fits the part. Think of it as having distorted guitar parts and clean ones in one song.

Have you tried not pushing it's volume as high as possible and crushing the dynamics? This will cause serious problems when converting to lower bitrates for streaming stuff. Here's a link to an article that goes way more in depth on the matter and that might help you further.

I have no experience with their new stuff, but the 2 Carvin's I own are still the best guitars I've tried out in that price range in my opinion.

Save yourself the 100 bucks and go acoustic all the way, when it's only for studiowork.
