Do you think the big four of thrash are the height of quality in the genre?

When the name was first coined they probably were the biggest 4 in terms of sales and popularity. I have to go with Testament as the overall best thrash group apart from their short 'Low' period. Lots of good one-off albums out there too by many different groups.

    New Fates Warning album

Hoping it's a good one. I've found all FW albums seem to just miss their full potential, although the fact that I get that feeling every time suggests it is actually me looking for them to be something they're not.

    Old school bassists

Lots of very good bassists listed, so a couple of more obscure ones who have impressed me over the years: Doug Pinnick - King's X Troy Gregory - Flotsam and Jetsam and as always, I have to give a shout to Accept, and Peter Baltes totally deserves to be in this company!

    Megadeth

Have to agree! The only one of the big 'four' still putting out good albums is Testament!

So what does everyone think of the rise in audio cassettes?

The only reasons for cassette tapes were so that you could make you own compilations and give them to your friends (remember the skull and crossbones "home taping is killing music"? .... if only they could have seen the future!), or so you could record you vinyl and play decent music in your...

    Queensryche vs. Queensryche

The new album out today proves there is only 1 Queensryche. It gets better every listen and blow's Geoff's FU out of the water. TBH I just can't understand Geoff's obsession with the band name as he clearly wants complete control and musicians of his choice which seems by any other definition...

WHich is betteer.... classic Accept or new Accept ?

Perhaps something to do with Stefan leaving the group and no longer producing his robot-tor style as he seems to have left to produce the Acceptology video of the band's career.

Your personal top 10 album list of all time.

OK, I'm old, so bear with me while I go back to the 70's and 80's! In no particular order: Seventh Son Rust in Peace Rising Perfect Man Ride the Lightning Streets (just beats Mountain King) Fly to the Rainbow Rage For Order Restless and Wild South of Heaven Blizzard of Ozz

    Best Black Sabbath vocalist/era?

Best Sabbath vocalist was everyone apart from Ozzy. Best Sabbath era was everything up to Tyr in 1990.

Have you ever stage-dived or crowd-surfed?

Look at me, look at me! Oooh a circle pit. Yes, that's why I came to a concert.

    New Sabbath

I've played this a few times now and sadly (and unfortunately) as expected, it fails to do anything for me. I had low expectations and 13 has marginally exceeded them, but there's nothing here I'd rate more that an average 5/10. In fact, the songs are all remarkably similar as Ozzy struggles to...

    BLACK SABBATH – "13"

Slightly exceeded my expectations, but probably sits somewhere in the lowest quarter of the Sabbath catalog. From what I've heard, imminent releases by Queensryche and Oliva are much more to my taste than this, although as the bell tolls and the rain falls at the end it really does seem to mark...

bland, over-produced sound in modern metal

For me firstly it's all about the songs. Are they good or bad? I listen to a lot of boots and play a lot of stuff on my iPod, so clearly I'm not looking for perfect sound. However, for studio recordings, I think the production really does depend on the type of music. Andy's work with Accept is...

    Queensryche vs. Queensryche

I guess this sums up the general feeling after Geoff's 'antics' over the last year. http://www.queensrychepoll.com/
