Dual Rec, Mesa cab, SM57 - what the F is wrong with me?

The Rectifier poweramp isn't really like anything else in a high gain amplifier, it has no negative feedback, so the cab has a huge bearing on the tone and it contributes a massive amount to the sound of the amplifer. If you want to experience something like a Rectifier on a budget, I'd...

do i need to bias my 5150 for a re-tube?

put the valves in, keep a eye on them once you power on. If they’re not red plating after a few minutes, you’ll probably be OK. That said, for optimal tone and longevity of the valves (and amp), you should definitely have the amp biased by a tech. It’s generally worth having them give it a once...

Accurate IR's for Load Boxes and Amp Sims

nope, used the same IR loader for both (and my Suhr is the non-IR loading one so I have to do it externally with that). The React IR load is much closer to a V30 cab than the Suhr though, so its "compensated" IR doesn't need to correct for as much power amp colouration as the Suhr does to a V30...

Accurate IR's for Load Boxes and Amp Sims

So since the start of the global pandemic, I put my spare time into making some big IR libraries. The first thing I wanted to get right was accuracy for a range of amplifiers, load boxes and modellers. Its quite a deep and difficult thing to get right as cabinets and power amps interact by...

Behringer ADA 8000... ADAT Interface Necessary?... Hook up to Laptop?? TASCAM US 2000??

ha never seen this before. I wouldn't worry about it other than it looking a bit goofy. Guessing its just Behringer using flimsy metal for the chassis.

di signal too hot, should I turn down guitar vol knob?

I'm not using any of those particular DI's but some of mine do clip more easily than others. API preamps are quite easy to clip anyway - its common on things like snare's to either clip them, or use the pad in the preamp (which is well known to suck tone). It's not broken, its just the design...

di signal too hot, should I turn down guitar vol knob?

there’s always some kind of trade off unfortunately. J48 colours the tone a lot and isn’t really appropriate for passive pickups - I’d generally try and avoid any DI’s with less than 1M Ω input impedance. In this situation, if you are using actives and are happy with the J48, I’d just go with...

Behringer ADA 8000... ADAT Interface Necessary?... Hook up to Laptop?? TASCAM US 2000??

Oh I just mean using the Focusrite purely for ADAT won’t have any effect on the Behringer at all, you can use both together. Behringer going into the ADAT of the Focusrite would sound the same as going into the ADAT of anything else.

Behringer ADA 8000... ADAT Interface Necessary?... Hook up to Laptop?? TASCAM US 2000??

Yep, use anything with an optical ADAT input and you're good to go. You'll be bypassing the Focusrite's pre's and conversion (but you may need to check they're clocked together which wont be an issue).

Quick question: KsE - ADD guitar tone?

Well there’s a cool video on youtube that confirms the tone was a od808, modded SLO (no clean channel or FX loop) into a Mesa Trad. Tried recreating with my Jet City and also Neural DSP’s SLO plugin. Both got extremely close with my 2001 Mesa Trad IR’s. the main thing is to use the crunch...

Questions regarding DI tracks and Reamping

Nothing wrong with bumping up the gain at some point to hit the amp how you’d like. Radial DI’s are mostly too low of an impedance for passive pickups unfortunately, so passive pickups will have a lower level and sound fuller than going straight into an amp (or using a DI with 1>MOhm...
