Mastering question, how much do you all push the limiter

yes sidechaining bass with kick ussually helps to add some headroom, sometimes sidechain guitars with snare, or vocal also works.

Mastering question, how much do you all push the limiter

There is some ugly distortion (reminds me some sort of bitcrusher) going on overheads noticeable even in the mix. Guitars are lacking some mids imho. And i would like to hear more bassguitar. Otherwise it is not bad. I use master limiter not taking more than 6dB ussually for this kind of music...

Recording and Mixing Hard Rock band - feedback welcome

Thank you for reply! Yes, you are right, there should be some more lowend. Perharps I will have to clean up some low-mids bands to make space and add more bass guitar. I tried also to pull off some high mids, but guitars lost some of their nice resonance and bite. Maybe adding some shine on...

Recording and Mixing Hard Rock band - feedback welcome

Hi guys. I recorded this band of friends of mine last weekend. We recorded three songs for EP and it took one and half day. Everything was happening in their practice room (approx. 5x5m). Now I'm in the mixing process and I would like to make it the best. So I would really appreciate if some...

    Metalcore mix

well, unfortunatelly I'm allready in the loudness war -the less experienced musicians the more loudnes they want :))) But you are definitelly right about this: ...mastering is too loud, when you feel like turnign down the music. mastering is great, if you fell like turning the music up!...

    Metalcore mix

Thank you, you are right about that hihat. Limiting on 2nd bus is a bit more agressive, but I compared it to some references from this gengre (Augustus Burns Red for example) and I found way more squashed tracks:)

    Metalcore mix

Hi, I'm mixing young Czech metalcore band. They are not very experienced yet, so their playing is not very tight and I had only few hours to set up the mix. Do you think that sound is ok? Or what are the worst flaws on this mix? Thank you for replies...

Album is done - Need Reviews!

really too loud ride, no bassguitar at all, overall mix is too compressed and flat, general lack of mids and lower mids, too much room on vocals. Kick is nice and snare is ok.

FFaF Songs! First Post! Need Honest Critiques!

Sounds great. I hear no significant problems at all and I like the production. Well, hard to judge from myspace stream, but on the other hand if it sounds good on myspace, than it will probably sound good on every iPod ;-) and of course great music...

I got another guitar head in my studio(Koch Powertone II)

SigmundFreud33: Yes, I noticed it and on some other places are guitars slightly out of tune. But after amp-processing it hides a bit. And who cares in this kind of music? ;-)
