This is for my own personal EP I've been working on these last few months/years. I've written it with programmed drums, and whilst I'm happy with that I'd much rather have real drums. Its a little different, very 90s centric groovy hard rock/metal. Think Kings X meets Pantera, Alice in Chains...

You ain't gonna get that unless you use a P-bass pickup. Sounds like he has a blend to me (P and J, though from memory his sig has a soapboar in the bridge, P in the neck). But the P is the core of that 'grunt' tone.

I'm not looking for savage metal tones with it or anything. Rock/hard rock is more my speed these days. I just want to use something other than V30's all the time as that tone has become so generic to me. I'm not at all question its place in my backline, as I absolutely use the shit out of it...

I've got a Marshall 1960A which has a blend of V30s and T75s (x-pattern). The tried and tested 57 + V30 is great with this thing, check out anything on my youtube channel and it's pretty much ALL that combo. I tend to neglect the T75s though because they just don't work for me, but in the room...

Awesome man, thanks. That's quite similar, but a little looser and without the woody 'thwack' that I like, but will definitely use it in a mix at some point. These are great.

Just bumping to say I've been playing with this sample more and it's fucking fantastic. It's definitely going to feature heavily (in fact, probably be the main snare sound) on my album that I've just started writing. It actually sounds much better detuned, it's got a great woody *crack* to it...

One or two. I'm not big on stacking samples, it's got to be absolutely necessary. I've got to the point where I've got a few go-to kicks and snares for metal, and will always try to find one that fits the mix, with MAYBE some augmentation to the sound with another on top. I know if I'm stacking...
