The SM58 is the safest thing to use. I'm sure those bands you listen to don't bring any special mics other than the 58.

Experiment and tinker with what you have. Best way to do so. :)

Knowing theory is good, but when you write songs, make sure it comes from your heart. That was it will never sound generic. Writing Melodeath songs doesn't always need the 3rds to make it sound Melodeath, right? You can have your own brand of Melodic Death Metal. Same thing when writing solos...

Try Demorgan I wish i could give you a free listen to all the tracks of the album. It's a mix of Thrash, Melodeath, Black, Death, Hardcore, Crossover, and NWOBHM-type heavy metal. Styles vary from song to song. Forsaken (Thrash Influenced melodeath)...

I don't know about the new album, but by the looks of what you're saying. Promises turned to years because of computer problems? That's BS. I mean if he doesn't have a day job or something, no matter how epic his computer problems would be, it couldn't have taken years. Just my 5 cents.
