My musical tastes are varied: classical (period agnostic), classic rock, dark wave and industrial. More recently I re-discovered metal through a cover of Trust's "Antisocial" found in Rayman Legends (I actually like the cover more!). So I'm going over some of the old, some of the new, and discovering that I enjoy it now quite a bit more now than I did in my youth.

While my kid brother is arguably the real family headbanger, I appreciate the style for its ability to stress the talents and instruments of the musician like no other genre. If you want to play some of the most demanding music out there, accept no substitutes.

I've cut my teeth on most common forms of guitar: classical, steel-string, baritone ukulele, electric and air. I was classically trained by way of violin and viola, ultimately reaching the level of "competent" in both. I was privileged to perform as a violist in the UC Irvine Symphony in my freshman year. Giving it up for the illusion of a rigorous academic schedule was one of my deepest regrets.

I have a Ph.D. in Physics (UCI 1995), and have used it in my career for modeling and analysis of speakers and speaker-like systems that make bigger and better sound in a smaller package. I also design ultra-quiet high-end audio pre-amps for electromagnetic sensors that support contraband interdiction efforts across international borders.

A personal goal of mine in the next two years is to revisit a musical instrument that can get me back on the stage. Viola, electric guitar or bass, and saxophone are on the table. I love bar and club music that people can dance to, but I dance like a straight white man and the chicks find that largely unimpressive. So I figure if I can't own it on the dance floor, maybe I can own it on the stage.

If you made it this far, then clearly you need to get out more. You may as well go the distance. Drop me a PM and LMK that you read my profile. Tell me something about yourself that's intense, something that would scare you to tell your friends, your spouse, your lover. Leave your litany of boredom and frustration at the door. Polarize me. Or grab me for brews and idle chat, hit me up as your fourth for bridge, or pull me aside to sit in with your chamber quartet or quintet (I don't play cello or double-bass).

I'm about as centrally located in Southern California as anyone is likely to get. Plus I travel enough that I'll get to your town sooner or later.

Thanks for reading, and cheers!
