2 New Death Metal MIDI Packs

Sounds cool. Question: I know it says GM mapping on the site, but what does that mean for using, say, SD3? Would I have to remap the midi for Superior?

List of good quality IRs available for Purchase

FLC is amazing – it is my go-to IR library. I bought one of the Celestion packs (the redback) and was not impressed with it. They sounded tubby no matter what I adjusted on the amp sim and guitar. I know they're supposed to be more raw than many of the "mix ready IRs" out there, but the raw...

    Superior Drummer 3

I agree. I'm getting some pretty killer sounds so far, especially with the surround mics cranked up on snare.

Typical garbage frequencies on my guitar tone

Interesting. I have the exact same 3 problem areas. The 6k is often the worst for my ears (using a Friedman amp sim).

The OwnHammer Heavy Hitters Collection volume 2 is out now!

Sounds really good. Any idea when/if the Emperor IR will be made available separately? That's the one I want.

    Valhalla Reverbs

I also like their Plate reverb. If you're after an absolutely dense and thick plate for snares, this is the one. Although, I believe there are some good plates in Vintage Verb as well.

What are the cons of timestretch editing ?

I get significant phasing issues when time stretching rhythm guitars, so I try to avoid it.

    Kush Transformer

Holy shit, I just tried the demo of the N model on your suggestion and I love it! Slapped it on a pair of heavy rhythms (via Mercuriall Spark) and they sounded awesome: thicker, meatier, etc. The N took away a lot of the fizz and harshness that I usually eq out. Totally sold, especially at a...

    Best Budget Interface

I'm very impressed with my Audient ID14 at the moment. I upgraded from a regular-ass Presonus interface a few months ago and the difference was incredible. The converters are top-of-the-line and I absolutely love the JFET DI – it improved my guitar and bass tone vastly (might be cool on keys...

Mercuriall Audio Software - Spark amp sim

4.5/5 here too. I really love the ability to move the mics around on the built-in cab (I remember doing this with amplitube as well). It's definitely allowed me to get exactly the tone I need for a mix more than static IR's that I've used in the recent past.

Need some help transcribing a part

Thank you! I had figured out a rough idea of the arp pattern, but this definitely helps me see what I'm missing.

Need some help transcribing a part

I need help transcribing the xylophone/marimba arpeggiated line from the intro of this Oingo Boingo song. I have a client who wants to do a metal cover, but we can't figure out how to perform the part via midi. It starts at the beginning of the song and runs through out. Can anyone help out?

Unstoppable Recording Machine - "Mixing Secrets" Blog Series

Thanks, dude. I learn a shitload of tips and tricks on the URM blog.

Mercuriall Audio Software - Spark amp sim

Just installed the 1.1 version with the improvements. I dig the SD-1 addition, but I'm not sure if I'll ever use it. I don't really like the EQ'd cabs addition though – it does even out the bottom end more, but it sounds like there's a pretty radical LP filter on it too that sucks out the life...

Mercuriall Audio Software - Spark amp sim

Just demo'd it and bought it. I love the AFD for heavy rhythms and the the two JMP's are great for stacking digital fuzz emulations. I'm also finding that it's a lot easier and quicker to get to a tone that I like by using the amp EQ and the variable mic/cab section than I have with any other...
