    Line2Amp + Saffire Pro 26 - Reamping problems

Strange indeed. It definitely sounds like an interface problem--there's nothing in the LINE2AMP that would generate a hiss. But I'm curious why the hiss is rather quiet in your monitors (you have to turn them all the way up to hear it, which probably means some of the monitors' self-hiss is...

    Line2Amp + Saffire Pro 26 - Reamping problems

Hi all, Google Alerts brought me here (the LINE2AMP is my product) and I thought I'd see if I could help out. OP, it sounds like the noise could be a problem with your interface, a problem with the LINE2AMP transformer, or both. If it's a problem with the transformer, it will be easy to get...

    Line2Amp - cheap Reamp kit or pre-built

Don't worry, more transformers are on the way from Edcor. Currently prototyping a new version, too, with pickup-emulation and other goodies. Glad to hear the LINE2AMP's working out for you guys.

Sounds like you're doing everything completely right, that's just the nature of the tradeoff--the L2A has more attenuation than other units so that it can have less output circuitry and be simpler/cheaper to build. Of course, your ability to get a high-gain sound will also depend on your amp...

Marcus, did you take the output from your interface or from your DI to the LINE2AMP? If you did go from your interface (line level) to the L2A, did you amplify the DI'ed signal on the way in with a mic preamp? I'm not doubting your results at all, just double checking.

You're right, in most cases the output will be quieter than that from your guitar. Here's why: The volume loss is a result of using a fairly high-ratio transformer (8.2:1). I experimented with a lower-ratio transformer (4.1:1) originally but found the output to be a touch too hot, so I would...

Hey Tom, you should lose about 28dB of gain, but it should by no means be too quiet to get a good signal to your amp. If it's REALLY quiet and lacking low end, you may have a bad transformer. If so I'll send you a new one right away.

The ground wire is supposed to be as thick as possible for the application, but I do understand that it's a pain to get through the terminals of the switch. I found that it's actually easier to do without pre-tinning the wire. Maybe I should add this to the instructions ;)

Sorry Jon :( I paid almost double for your parts than I did for this round of kits, if that's any consolation ;) PS. Why wait around for a DI box, you've got an amp haven't you?

    Benefit of adding NS-10's

Worth it? Totally. You could turn around and sell them for twice that!

    Proco Rat

In my experience the clipping diodes are a much bigger part of the sound than the chip. The chip is really there to provide some gain to push the signal harder into the diodes, not to do any clipping itself. Would be interested to hear if others had a different perspective.

Hi guys, thanks a lot for the interest. The LINE2AMP kits are back in stock (http://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/store/product-category/line2amp-reamping-box-full-kit/) --the price is $35 now because I was able to order parts in bigger quantity. And thanks again to Jon and Ryan for reviewing...
