The samples featured in PRO Custom Drums V1 are RAW and it's up to the user to process them in any way he/she likes. The SSL presets are supplied as starting points and inspiration. :)

I think this is really cool, but it does degrade the original audio too much for my taste. Would very much like to see a function that converts all transient hits into MIDI. Then you can use that information to trigger gates in the DAW. Cubase has a good tool for this but you still need to go...

wow... ;) If you think that's a rip-off, I suggest you check out Waves SSL and take a look at what that one actually does and start beating yourself up if you bought it for the price it was when it came out when you could've had the exact same thing for $50. :P

For multiband processing, if your goal is to have it sound anything like the original audio but more balanced there's pretty much only the UAD Precision Multiband. Everything else is just kind of ... worse :Smug:

This is true, but according to most techs... D-sub can't beat a plain soldering job for durability and quality. Plus, in a more complex setup you need to consider a lot of grounding issues and with D-sub this makes it a bit harder to get right when you need to do a very custom grounding job...

Oh dear... the wiring.... It would be easy putting together a studio if you didn't need to consider the damn wiring. It almost makes it worth using plugins only to get out of the hassle of handling the wiring. Patchbays and cables can kiss my ass! Every time I go "hmm.. it would be cool...

This of course depends on if you think you need to or not. I've had the odd mix in from Ermz in where he used an SSL Bus Compressor clone and squashed it 7-8db quite aggressively, and I even compressed it 1-2db further on my end (although very smoothly) without even knowing he had smashed it...
