In Flames - Whoracle & The Jester Race

Colony had BAD production compared to them? Personally, I didn't think much of Jester Race compared to Colony and Whoracle. I loved Moonshield, I liked The Jester's Dance and Artifacts Of The Black Rain, but not much else.

    Guitar solos, Theory

The harmonic minor scale isn't just a scale, it's the main minor scale. The seventh note is raised, yes. It's pretty rare to see modern songs written in a harmonic minor key though - most metal doesn't raise the seventh note, which is basically how I like it. For a blatant example of a...

    Opeth's song writing... naive???

Opeth's music itself never comes off as very straight; there's a lot of subtlety, and the general feeling is describable as somewhat chaotic. It's undoubtedly a more unorthodox thing, because if Mikael was actually aiming to create a more melodic death-influenced style, he would've developed it...

    Some good Grindcore bands

Well, it's been defined as a supposed "classic" many times, but for me all that comes to mind is You Suffer and the random blahing of Pseudo Youth. Not something that I'd listen to willingly.

In Flames - New Album/DVD News

That's a hell of a lot of songs. And is that a Pantera cover I see there? I also thought Reroute To Remain was okay, but no, I didn't think much of Soundtrack To Your Escape. It's not the general feel of the songs that's bad (songs like Ordinary Story and Colony sound similar), but just the...

What bands do you like that no one else does?

My Own Prison was good for me too, and Bullets had what was probably the single heaviest riff in existence. I like Silverchair, although that's probably because I've heard their fourth album Diorama (and everyone else hasn't), and it's just a pure masterpiece.

    Some good Grindcore bands

What would you define as a good grindcore song anyway? I've heard Napalm Death's Scum and at its best, it's really just random unrelated riffs strung together with a twice-as-loud drum kit and even more random vocals. At its worst is blipcore like "You Suffer" or rambling with blast-beats like...

Quoted for truth! You Suffer by Napalm Death and Windchimes Are Gay by Anal Cunt are cool though. :)

    Fastest drummers

Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater completely owns everyone else. Listen to the start of Honor Thy Father or the drum solos in As I Am and Stream of Consciousness and you'll get the idea.

    Metallica solos

Yeah, about half the songs from the Kill 'Em All-Master Of Puppets era are pretty much just based on pentatonic scales... When you say you can't stand the solos, do you mean you don't like solos or are you too elitist to like them?
