I work for Dolby and deal with this pretty much daily. For theatrical releases (i.e. films) you need to mix in a Dolby calibrated room (room is lined up to 85dBC with 20 dB of headroom). For TV you're dealing with loudness measurements, so you'll need some way of measuring it. Each production...

I have a BSS AR133 at work for when I need to DI a signal into a Neve. Very clean, very well made DI. At home I have a Sansamp Bass Driver Programmable. Amazing for bass and if you want to DI a guitar then just set the Blend to Direct and all the bass and treble to noon and away you go.

You don't actually need a mid range control, just work the low and high controls. Need more mid-range then turn them both down, need less mid range then turn them both up.

Just found this thread ... you're planning on making a plugin of a Dolby SR card?? I'd probably go as far as to say that it can't be done, at least not with any accuracy. I work for Dolby and even in our last incarnation of digital film encoders, we still used analogue cards. It took Ray 5 years...
