    It's important to conform as much as humanly possible to the sonic status quo. That said, you should be using an ESP guitar with EMG 81s into a Peavey 5150 into an OS Mesa mic'd with a SM57 only. This is the only acceptable tone for modern metal.

    On it's own, I thought the v30 didn't sound very good, but was really impressed by how good the combined tone sounded. Have you tried other speaker combos in this cab?

    They seem really even sounding. Usually, there's something that sticks out on a tone clip, but these seem really so well balanced bass/mid/high-wise that I can't find anything to complain about. And yes, make some IRs now please. :)

    Laney IRT Ironheart Studio thoughts?

    I wasn't a big fan of the tones gotten on those demos, but the unit does seem like it offers a very good value for the price when you consider what you're getting. It would be interesting to hear how the Laney pres sound in relation to those on a higher end interface.

    ADA MP-1 Tone Test

    I run my ADA MP-1 through an oversized 1X12 and am very happy with the tone I get. As for the running pedals in front, I've used several, but always seem to comeback to the an Ibby TS9, although I've had good results with a Digitech Valve Distortion as well.

    http://adadepot.com/index.php I have one of these and like them very much. Setting-wise, I like to set both ODs to 10, bass around 6-ish, mids -6-ish, treble 6-ish. I also found putting a tube screamer in front of it helps to really tighten up the bottom end as well.
