Hello! I have just recently delved deeper into heavier/underground (idk if I'm using the right terminology) metal music, eg. black metal, sludge metal, and neue duetsche härte. My gf introduced me into more subgenres of metal, their favorite metal subgenres being goregrind and depressive black metal, at least I think. I did try to listen to goregrind and music similar to it, but I don't think it's the type of metal I like the most honestly. Before my gf introduced me to more metal subgenres, I only listened to nu metal bands like Slipknot, Korn, and System of a Down. I have only ever listened to one lesser known metal band, and their name is Faetooth. They're an all female doomgaze/doom metal band formed in 2019. I highly recommend you to listen to them, they're pretty good! Some of the metal bands I like currently are Unearthly Trance (sludge metal), Stahlmann (Neue Deutsche Härte), Stone Titan (sludge metal), Dark Angel (thrash metal), Ihsahn (progressive black metal), My Useless Life (depressive black metal), and Nattefrost (black metal).
