like in Opeth forum..have you cried to Anathema?..

Well, I didn't quite cry but remember how devastating it was discovering 'Eternity' and 'The silent Enigma' at the same time as I was going through a tough period. Those songs just clung to me and struck such a chord in my heart that I thought I'd never come round.

    Opeth's future direction

I was looking back at the March 2001 issue of Terrorizer this week, and their review of BWP. It was a glowing review, which prompted me to buy the album, but they made an interesting comment; ' Maybe you'd be forgiven for expecting the unique and difficult Opeth sound --------- to get a...

    your first time listen..

I only discovered Anathema early this year, when I bought 'eternity'. followed very soon by most of the rest. 'Eternity' really got inside me, the whole thing an amazing emotional journey which I took a long time to shake off. There is something special about the lyrics and music of Anathema...

    Funeral Music

Two songs come to mind - 'Alone' from Anathema's 'Enigma' album, and 'The Sorrowed Man' by Nevermore ( 'In memory' E.P.). Both are nicely 'otherworldly', and the second song tinged with hope for a better world!

    Rush fans?

Yep, I think soul forlorn has said it just right there. I must admit to having drifted away from Rush in the mid-eighties, but was a huge fan during the 'Hemispheres' and 'A Farewell to kings' era. An album definately worth a listen is their first live one, 'All the worlds a stage', which has a...

the production on the new album SUCKS

Hell, I'm surprised that you think the production on DHIADW is bad; Sure, it's way different to DNB or 'Politics-' which really rock, but the guitar sound is still awesome, never more so than on ' The sound of Silence'.I'm glad they went for this change in sound, it went with the whole mood of...

    Sentenced - Down

This is an album worth owning; Sentenced's own brand of depressive music is unique and guitarist Sami Lopakka has a distinctive crunchy chord sound and lead style. They are a great 'Autumn listening' band, lots of depressing lyrics and atmosphere, but for me they never quite hit a true feeling...

    How old are you all?

And I forgot to say wow, how great it sounds to be called a 'junior member'! I'm reborn!

    How old are you all?

Metalmancpa, stay cool! I beat you by two years, I'm 43 in December. The music just sounds better the older you get! 'I longed for the death of the Sun, another glorious revelation-----'

    My Opeth listening dilemna

An interesting dilema, ;for me it's the reverse! I buy the album ( BWP), am so blown away that I buy all the others, and then skim over them all and not concentrate on one. Eventually I return to one and work at it ( 'Still Life' in my case) and then cannot put it down!

    Sentenced, Anyone?

I first heard Sentenced when ' Crimson' came out and then got hold of some of the earlier releases. I agree, 'Killing you, killing me' is good, and so is 'No more beating as one' on 'Crimson'. Of the earlier albums 'Frozen' is pretty good, and so is 'Down', but overall I think their albums...

    YOUR Anathema track?

'Cries on the wind' from Eternity - I love those chords.

What do we think about Anathema's new direction?

I think 'A fine day to exit' is a great album; I have to admit though, that I would prefer some heavier guitar thrown in amongst the gentler work on this album. You have to move forward I know, but I would have preferred more variation. There's no doubt though, that Anathema emotional effect is...

    Demon Of The Fall

I know there must have been many threads in the past on the theme of 'my favourite track' but I'm new to this forum. So does anyone else think 'Demon of the fall' from MAYH is one of the best Opeth tracks ever? - I've only recently acquired this album having heard 'Blackwater Park' and 'Still...
