    Best synth/string/piano midi software?

Synthogy Ivory 2 is amazing, I did a classical piano album years age with Ivory 1 and my professor at university couldn't tell it was played using that. Also EastWest's Quantum Leap Piano is good, very detailed with multiple mic positions.

    A de-essing technique

I don't know if anyone else does this but I find it works really well. Whilst watching Mixing Rock on the Groove 3 site, the producer automates a 4db (I think) reduction for every S sound manually, and I think I prefer it to using a de-esser, just sounds more natural to my ears. Anyone else...

Have you tried raising the buffer?

Low end Power Bass guitar and kick drum

Firstly it's high pass filter not low pass when cutting lows. Try finding the thump frequency on the kick, usually around 60-75hz (using a frequency analyzer can help) and boost by 3db then cut by the same frequency on the bass guitar.

    Intel i5 2500k or i7 2600k

I just bought an i7 2700k with 16GB of RAM, it's great. Overclocked to 5ghz if I want, but it doesn't really need it. On my old dual core I'd run out of power after running two instances of decapitator, now I can run over 30 lol Not that I'd need too. Also having a 450mb/s SSD means 5 second...

Symphonic/Ambient Metal, new track titled "Deep Blue"

Hey, in general every instrument is masked by the strings, so every instrument sounds too quiet apart from the strings. There's way too much reverb on the vocals, all I can hear is reverb.

Help: Cubase piano roll is barely visible

Go to preferences and make the lines darker. Should be something about gridlines and a slider for darkness.

    New Toontrack product.

 Probably EZ Band, tell it you want to sound like Attack Attack! And it will compose and mix it all for you.

    New Toontrack product.

Still wouldn't compare with a proper pianist improvising parts for you (I'm not too expensive ;) )Plus there are plenty of great piano vsts. Wonder what it is...

How many times do you track stuff?

I prefer quad, but in most cases the guitarists I record are not tight enough for it so I go double. Sometimes even do the "Hass effect" with double tracked guitars. Sending the right guitar to the left with delay and the left guitar to the right with delay.

    Tricks to getting Beefy/thick sound?

And what do you do with that one mono guitar track? You need to double track at a minimum.

    Slate Virtual Tape Machine

Have you tried Cranesong Phoenix? A few guys here use it, and so does Andy Sneap. There's also the UAD tape emulations, McDSP Analog Channel and Waves MPX. Looking forward to trying out Slate's one (when it comes out).

    Looking For Engineers

Don't you mean raw files? Stems are stereo mixdowns of drums, guitars etc... Quite a few people on here seem to be calling them stems at the moment.
