while i'm sure the mini 5150 III sounds great in my personal experience i've never heard a 50 watt all tube head sound as big as a 120 watt all tube head. 50 watts is certainly loud enough to gig with. they just never seem to fill out the room quite as much as the bigger heads.

I always liked the sd-1 with marshalls or other similarly voiced amps. Put one in front of a jcm 800 and it's 80's metal bliss. With the modern sounding amps I like the tube screamers.

Can't buy 'em new anymore cause they've been discontinued. I guess ibanez figured out people were caching on that they could boost their amps just as well with a 30 dollar tube screamer as they could with one five times the price. But you can still find them used pretty cheap.
